13 Halloween Episodes To DIE LOLing Over!

Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas are such fun times of the year! But let's not get ahead of ourselves. Halloween is first and here are some of my favorite TV episodes to get you in the mood. Some are scary, some are silly and some are just plain fun!  

1. Psych - This Episode Sucks Season {S6 Ep3}. I became a huge Psych-O SDCC and this episode is one of my most favorites. Vampires and laughs!

2. Chuck - Chuck vs the Sandworm {S1 Ep6}. Chuck will always hold a special place in my heart. This show made me more nerdy! I love all the costumes and Star Wars references!

3. Castle - Vampire Weekend {S2 Ep 6}. Nathan Fillion dressed as a "space cowboy," need I say more?!

4. The Office - Halloween {S2 Ep5}. This is a show that knows how to do a Halloween episode. Funny costumes and characters. An Office classic.  

5. Dexter - Dexter {S1 Ep1}. A great place to start your Dexter journey. Great mood and set up to an amazing show.

6. Goosebumps - One Day at Horrorland {S3 Ep 6&7}. My favorite of the Goosebumps books! Now the entire series is available on Netflix.  Can you say marathon?! 

7. Community - Horror Fiction in Seven Spooky Steps {S3 Ep5}. Season three is where the show really starts to get amazing. This episode is perfect. One of my top favorites and a great way to get into this amazing show.

8. Simpsons - Treehouse of Horror: Lisa, Bart and Homer's nightmares {S2}. I find that the earlier Treehouse of Horrors are the best. Maybe because I was younger when they were beginning to come out and their scary factor was more real to me. 

9. The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. A classic that will never die!

10. The Walking Dead - Days Gone Bye {S1 Ep1}. SO happy to have this show back on, but this first episode sets up an amazing series and could be a movie all it's own.

11. Home Improvement - Haunting of the Taylor House {S2 Ep6}. Home Improvement was such a fun family show, they just don't make them like this anymore. I wish all TV shows could do Halloween episodes that last!

12. Are You Afraid of the Dark - The Tale of the Nightly Neighbors {S1 Ep8}. Where my fascination with vampires began!

13. Glee - The Rocky Horror Glee Show {S2 Ep5}. Great music and wonderful performances. I don't watch Glee anymore, but I still enjoy their music!

Killer Instinct: Book Review

Killer Instinct by S.E. Green, tells the story of a teenage girl, Lane, who is surrounded by a loving family, excelling in her high school studies and taking joy in an after school job at the local vet.  Under all this normality, lives something not normal. Lane has a desire to kill and when the notorious serial killer The Decapitator  begins sending her personal messages, that desire begins to evolve into action.

The first thing I thought, when I read the synopsis for Killer Instinct was Dexter for the Young Adult genera.  I have been a HUGE Dexter fan for years and once discovering the show, turned to the books it was based after.  I couldn't help but see the entire first season of Dexter in Killer Instinct.  It was almost like I was reading Darkly Dreaming Dexter all over again.  There were just so many similarities, that I don't want to divulge if you decide to read Killer Instinct.

Even though there are so many similarities in the two novels, that did not stop me from quickly reading through Killer Instinct.  For all of you who know me, I always say that I am THE slowest reader.  But with Killer Instinct I finished it within only a few days.  I found it to be enticing and mysterious and kept me guessing until the very end.

The book is being marketed to ages 14 and up, but I defiantly don't think a book about a teenage serial killer is for kids quite that young.  There is a lot of graphic detail in the book.  I know that teenagers these days are exposed to a lot of things, but I think retaining our innocence as long as possible is a good thing.  That being said, I will send this book over to The Gamer Geek who is almost 17.  He has watched the entire Dexter series and I think he would enjoy this.

Yes I did like Killer Instinct and yes I would recommend it to you, it is a good mystery story and kept me guessing until the very end!

Killer Instinct will be released on May 6, 2014.

DIY Dexter Halloween Party

With the FINAL episode EVER of Dexter THIS Sunday September 22nd and Halloween coming up, I thought perfect time for a party!!!  I have been a fan of Dexter since the beginning and have even read all the books!  So to send off one of my favorite fandoms I decided to have a Dexter theme dinner party!

I started off by wrapping the entire table and chairs with plastic wrap.  That was relatively easy and a more themed touch than just a table cloth.  The black garbage back is actually the drink dispenser!  I decided to dress it up a bit.  The ice bowl for the drinks has the ice truck killer's famous victims hand in it!  I painted the nails myself.  Thank you dollar store for the idea!

If you click on the collage below you can see our Dexter victims pictures hanging from the chandler!  It was a fun way to help guests get immersed in the theme!

For the menu I had a CHOP salad, pigs in a blanket {which I called "bad guys in plastic"} and blood slide cookies.  The cookies are from Trader Joe's and such a yummy fall tasting treat!  To drink we had a red sparkling pomegranate juice also from Trader Joe's.

In the end clean up was a breeze!  Dexter would be proud at how well I cleaned up leaving not a trace!  Maybe a bit of finger prints though!  OOPS!!

San Diego Comic Con 2013: The Swag!

I don't know if I was too busy this year, or there just wasn't that much swag this year!  Even in past years the Gaslamp has had MASSIVE swag, but they were at an all time low as well.  Same goes for panels.  Of the 11 panels I attended I received one ticket {then proceeded to loose it}.

I was picker than usual on swag though to be honest.  I didn't take everything that was handed my way.  I had a list and on Sunday {I know too late} I went to gather it all.  I missed out on the Petco Yoda ears.  But really I wasn't too sad to miss anything.  I was super happy to get the exclusive Mad Libs and ECSTATIC when after rolling around in the Ducktales money bin {a childhood dream come true} I was handed a Ducktales PIN!  From purchases at BBCA and Nerd HQ I was given the awesome lanyard and keychain.  But I the Ducktales pin is getting the award for BEST swag of the con!

If you have read my previous swag posts, you know that the SDCC free bags are my FAVORITE!  I wanted the WB Big Bang Theory bag, but Arrow was a good runner up.  I got a nice substantial tote from good friend and author James Morris {which he even signed} and the amazing guys at GraphicLab Designs gave me a sweet lil backpack!  I was on a mission from the get go to get the Geek Magazine Oblivion exclusive bag {with the ruins of SDCC convention center}.  I acquired that on Friday and they were already almost out!  Thank you SDCC Unofficial Blog for the awesome Pop Chips bag FULL of swag and don't ask me where the zombie bag came from...it just popped up one day in our piles of stuff back at the house.

I had a HUGE list of things I wanted to buy this year and was able to get ALMOST all of it!  I had my eye on the amazing BBCA Doctor Who and Sherlock tees but the line for that booth was RIDICULOUS!  Preview night we waited in a pre-line for a LONG time to no avail.  Come Thursday I was worried they would be all gone.  But Being Geek Chic came to my rescue and conquered the line!  I got James Morris' sequel to Skybound, Water Tower, stay tuned for giveaway!  I bought ALL things Futurama and was able to acquire {due to newest and most awesome friend Adam} the Back to the Future Lego set!  He bought it for me Thursday, they were gone the next day.  Nerd HQ had so many amazing tees, but by the time I made it to their merch table they only had 1 out of 3 I wanted.  I also bought a button and magnet from them.  Since they didn't have some of the tees I wanted, they were kind enough to give me a 15% off code for an online purchase and that has been made!

Finally the mini David Tennant in a dashing tux is sitting on my desk with his sonic screwdriver!

One more thing.  I usually try to be super positive and not say anything that isn't going to build people up or support us nerds, that being said, I was super disappointed in the swag given out at the Dexter panel.  I didn't attend personally, The Hunny and Gamer Geek did and were both given a ticket for the fulfillment room.  We were SUPER excited about this as it was Dexter's last year and it is one of our MOST favorite shows!  Come to find out the swag was this....

A paper fan that looks like an egg with a cut on it.  There were no Dexter bags this year {my all time favorite swag of the last 4 years} no buttons, not even a tattoo like last year.  This was pretty insulting.  I would have rather had nothing than this.  They could have even given this out IN the panel rather than make people fight through the crowds and lines.

San Diego Comic Con 2013: Day 2

After an AMAZING and EXHAUSTING 1st day of SDCC, day two started off a bit rough...but we finally made it out of the house at noon!

My first stop HAD to be the Ducktales Money Bin at the Capcom booth located all the way at the end of the show floor in hall A.  There was a small line and a funny sign saying no jumping or diving in to the money bin.  Of course that IS the first thing I wanted to do, but ended up just gently falling into the pillow money!  While waiting in line the Ducktales theme song came on and and the entire line of ADLUTS {myself included!!} sang along, it was AMAZING!  The ladies working the booth were super sweet and helped with throwing the money up for a great shot!  When it was over, I was surprised by getting a Ducktales pin!  My favorite swag so far!

Then had to head over and get my Futurama fix in!  I had not been to get my annual picuture with the newest comic and it was great!  Bought the newest comic and their exclusive Comic Con comic collection.

Then I turn around and see Matt Groening signing comics!  I rushed around to the end of the line only to find it already capped.  So I walked back over to at least get a picture!  He was even signing a Futurama comic. 

Passing the lego booth, I noticed THIS sign.  Luckily a new special friend had picked one up for me on Thursday!!!  So excited for that new toy, it is awesome!

Then to get my buy on!  I hadn't been able to buy anything so at the Toynami booth I bought their three SDCC toys and was in Futurama heaven!

The Music Maven and I were able to meet up with Twitter friend Elsbeth and had a great time walking and talking and trading SDCC stories!  Don't you LOVE her Fringe tee!?

I HAD to stop by and say hi to our SherlockeDCC sponsors and great friends GraphicLab Tees!!!  They are such awesome and cool guys!  Thank you for all your support fellas!!

After FINALLY making it to the BBCA booth and buying ALL the things, I walk out to see these awesome cosplayers!

We also hit up NERD HQ again since last night the merch tables were closed.  I was able to get one out of the three tees I wanted, but was given a code for 15% off online purchase.  Will be picking up more!

*Being Human - SO excited that this panel is not over lapping with Futurama this year so NO Sophie's Choice!  After Futurama we will run over to Indigo Ballroom at the Hilton Bayfront for the 4pm panel. If we get in early a bonus panel before Being Human is The Nerdist panel at 3pm.  Fingers crossed!

*I also have to make it over to the Retro Outlaw booth for their Lea Thompson signing.  As soon as I saw this, I knew that I had to do my Marty McFly cosplay on Saturday!  Here's hoping there is a Delorean some where at SDCC too!

Dexter Season 7 Finale

TOO MUCH!!!!  Dexter, Deb, Hannah & good-bye LaGuerta!  No big baddie for Dexter to hunt this year, instead he is the hunted.  

Dexter and Hannah showdown.  They both love and miss each other still but end up agreeing that they can both never trust each other.  Hannah's true colors finally come out when she says she thought it would be Dexter in jail and not her.  One passionate good-bye kiss later and he thinks she is out of his life forever.  Can't wait for him to receive his black death flowers!  Guess she is the badder for the series end?!

Deborah and Hannah showdown number two.  Hannah has finally admitted to poising Deb out of jealousy.  Deb is still trying to protect her brother by making positive that Hannah isn't going to talk.  Hannah basically gives Deb a verbal beat down.  Round two to Hannah.  If only Hannah could see Deb at episodes end.

Round three Dexter and LaGuerta.  She arrests him for the murder of Hector.  Which of course he is actually not guilt of.  He has planted and fixed evidence in his favor, making LaGuerta look like a crazy lady.  Of course we know she is right, but no one else knows she is.  Good try LaGuerta but if know one else knows your not crazy...Dexter for the win!

Deb and LaGuerta dook it out over NEW evidence that LaGuerta has uncovered.  Video of Deb getting gas in a gas can for Dexter near the church at the time the church was caught on fire.  Pretty convincing way to start a case against Deb and Dexter.  LaGuerta gets the win...but not for long.  Seriously you want to mess around with a serial killer and his cop sister?!  Bad things were bound to happen.  

Dexter has decided what his final choice must be.  But when Deb shows up and knocks it all out of whack they are both in the same boat, not just Deb following along anymore, she is IN THE BOAT!  

This season has had its ups and downs, but it never disappoints me.  EVERY episode the hunny and I are yelling at the screen.  I CANNOT wait for the final season beginning sometime next year.  This was suppose to be the final season, but they were convinced to do the show ending in two years.  So grateful as this year Dexter got NO Golden Globe nominations.  The finale alone deserved something.  LOVE this show and am going to savor every last episode that comes next year!  Until then!

Nerdy 4 Dexter

I cannot remember when I first began watching Dexter.  Usually these things are quite clear in my mind, but for some reason Dexter is not.  I do remember that my lovely Aunt suggested it.  So I did a bit of investigating   

We own seasons 1-4 so I searched my Amazon account to see if I bought them there.  The only one that showed up was season 3 in August of 2009.  So I am pretty sure I pre-ordered that one.  Now seasons 1 and 2.  I do vividly remember always seeing season 1 around stores, since the cover is quite weird!  So we probably began season one when we first moved to San Diego in 2009.  That is also when I began reading the books which I also love.  The first is similar to the first season, but the other are not.  The third book I did buy here in SD and it was signed by the author, which is a nice treat to have.

At 2009's SDCC we did not attend the Dexter panel, but I saw those Dexter bags for the first time and HAD to have one!  I made it to the booth right in time to buy my Dexter bobble head {he sits on my desk} and get the LAST bag.  That was also the year they were passing out the Dexter baby pins.  I sadly did not get a full set as we did not go to the convention center on Sunday.

To this day I proudly carry my Dexter bag every time we go to the beach.  Still the 2009 one, that is getting carried till it is no more.  THEN I can begin to break into my stash of other years bags.

2010's SDCC we did get to attend the Dexter panel for the first time and we were pretty close to the stage!  Again the Dexter bag is the main swag I HAVE to get.  But this time it was FREE :)

2011's SDCC I got my Dexter bag on the 2nd day of the con.  There was a fuss to get it, but not as much as 2012. 

What I wait my entire SDCC for!

2012's SDCC was the LAST year for Dexter bags, so it felt very hard to get one.  I stalked the booth for the giveaways and was lucky enough to get two {one for me and one for The Hunny, but really both for me!}.

The Dexter pin, which now sits on my badge holder in my car with all my other con badges.  I just recently made some "art" out of all my buttons from cons and now only a few are left in my car Dexter holding one of the places of honor.

My Dexter bag collection is now complete.

For the season 5 finale we were invited over to our friends house {which we do every Sunday} and I baked some special Dexter victim gingerbread cookies.  Nothing says Merry Christmas like gingerbread men wrapped up ready to die.

Why love a serial killer you say?  Because I, like his sister Deb, do believe that there is good in him. He rids the world of bad people.  He also loves and protects his family too.  

Michael C. Hall is such an amazing actor.  Every season he IS Dexter.  There is one scene in particular that stands out in my mind, Dexter is in a men's restroom and this guy is trying to make him mad, Dexter just flips out. The anger/hate that you see is not something you would usually see or react like.  Michael makes you believe him.  On the flip side, when he says to a sweet sleeping Harrison "it's going to be all right."  You believe that to.  From 2002-2011 he has been nominated for a SAG award and 2007-2011 for a Golden Globe.  He won his first Globe in 2010.  It was great to see him FINALLY be officially recognized for his amazing acting abilities.

My favorite episodes would have to be the two amazing cliffhangers of season 4 and 6!  Brilliant and left me dying for more!

For the final episode I had a little Dexter themed party!  I was not happy about how they ended the series.  I thought that if they ended it with him sailing off into the storm, I could have lived with that.  Or returning safely to Harrison and Hannah.  I cried for the end and I cried for what could have been, but mostly I cried because I would miss Dexter.

WHAT ARE YOU NERDY FOR?!

San Diego Comic Con 2010: Day 1

Day one of SDCC was nice and easy! We woke up when we wanted to this morning and took our time getting ready, I even made pancakes and bacon for the boys for breakfast. We left the house at 1030am and arrived a bit after 11am at the convention center, took us a while to get a parking spot today! We arrived and Gage had to go get his passes and we walked the floor till noon, when The Hunny wanted to head to the 38 studios panel (his brother use to work there). We walked around almost the entire floor today, didn't get in depth to it though, just kinda browsed. I found a Serenity booth and bought a graphic novel and a magnet for my car:) I got my comic con T, not the one I wanted but one in my size at least. Did not find the Dexter bags, that is my mission tomorrow! Saw one "celeb" while walking around the floor it was Mike Mizanin from the Real World Back to New York. Didn't get a good picture of him, because it was too fast, the floor was crowded and he had bodyguards with him! LOL

At 4pm we headed up to the Ballroom 20 line to wait for Dexter at 6pm. We got into the ballroom 1/2 through the Showtime Anti Heroes panel, so was able to see David Duchovny as well as Michael C Hall. Both very funny guys! After that was the actual Dexter panel and the hunny went and got us closer seats so we could actually see them instead of just on the screen. They showed a trailer for the next season and it was AWESOME!! Again Michel C. Hall was very funny, him and his wife, Jennifer Carpenter and the actor who plays his father on the show, James Remar sat on the panel along with some of the shows producers. The fan question and answer session went a bit long and in my opinion dumb questions were asked. Like what is gonna happen next season (wait and watch it!) After the panel was over while we headed out of the Ballroom we were handed Dexter pins, so that made my day:) That was the end of our 1st day at Comic Con, we headed home and ate 3 large zPizzas and cookie cake:)
