Saying farewell to Marfa was bitter sweet. I’ll be excited to see her again. My journey continues on, excited for a pit stop in Roswell, NM. I’ve always been a fan of aliens. X-files. Independence Day. Signs. Fringe. Futurama inspired 100 cups of coffee. I had to stop on my way to Taos, NM. I’m glad I did. But just make it just a pit stop. Sticker for my water bottle, photo with an alien. I was ready to move forward to Taos, NM.

flying solo // marfa, tx π
Another four hours on the road from White Sands National Monument to Marfa. I put on my favorite tunes, roll down the window and relish the view. This trip I’ve decided to keep my phone on do not disturb. It has been the best decision. I enjoy the road, am relaxed and have no anxiety around answering messages. Which is what being on the road is all about.

flying solo // white sands national monument π
Driving for four hours is perfect. Planning for a stop at that time has really improved my road tripping experience. After leaving Los Poblanos in Albuquerque, New Mexico, I decided that my half way to Marfa, Texas destination would be White Sands National Monument.

flying solo // los poblanos historic inn & organic farm π
For my birthday trip this year (the big 3-9!) I decided to get out on the road for a week. First stop Los Poblanos Historic Inn & Organic Farm. My best friend Liz had mentioned it to me years ago. I already LOVE New Mexico and I trust her, so I booked a room with my company travel stipend. So grateful for that!

flying solo // hidden treasure trailhead π
Whenever someone suggests a hike to me, I add it to a list in my Google calendar. On the weekends, I take a look and see where I've not been yet. This week it was Maryland Mountain Hidden Treasure Trailhead!
Black Hawk, CO is a short 48 minute from my home in the middle of Denver. I love an hour drive out into the mountains on the weekends. It is the perfect out and back for a morning hike. I left around 9AM and arrived at the trail head right after 10AM (had to stop for gas).
Driving to Black Hawk, you twist and turn and all of the sudden in between two high cliffs are casinos! Past the massive casinos, lives historical and unique buildings. The trail head is only 3/4 past the small town. A large eagle statue welcomes you to the trailhead. I took the Historic Gilpin Tramway.

flying solo // colorado hikes π
I'm done waiting for someone to go places with. Time to get out and fly solo.
I started to get into hiking my 4th year in Colorado. Spurred by my need to get out of the house (COVID) and feel like myself again after a break up, hiking has become something I am passionate about and am excited to do each weekend. Here are my favorite hikes in my first year of solo hiking Colorado!

flying solo // breckenridge, co π
This summer I really wanted to get out of my comfort zone and try something new! As a pisces I LOVE the water and paddle-boarding (SUP) is super popular here in Colorado. So I made a reservation at Lake Dillion, drove an hour and got on the water for the first time! I LOVED it!!

flying solo // UT, AZ & NM road trip π
My entire trip was about arriving at sunset. The end of the day. The perfect time. No matter what I planned I always arrived in my destination at the end of the day. Witnessing the most gorgeous endings. Thinking about my ending and ending this trip with a new beginning.

flying solo // mt rushmore π
I had talked about going to Mt. Rushmore with my past partner. But we never went. NOW since it was only 6 and a half hours away from Denver, I felt like it was my time to go! Come 4th of July I headed up to see all that South Dakota had to offer!
welcome! ππ»♀️
Hi, I’m Megan Elvrum! ☕
I started blogging in 2012.
Somewhere along the way, it turned into something bigger than I expected… a space for rebuilding, growth, and figuring out who you are when everything changes.
Now, all these years later, I’m self-publishing my first novel Musical Awakening.
Thank you for being here! π
let the journey begin

"I'm a sucker for epistolary novels, so when I first read about it on Megan's blog I knew I needed to get my hands on a copy. If you're a millennial that spent their teens and 20's in small show venues every weekend then this is the book for you. A very cute story, perfect for a cozy weekend in with a cup of coffee (or tea) :)"

"As someone who also lives in music and feels it deeply this is a story for you! A quick read that took me to a nostalgic time where music and traveling shaped my life and helped me with some of my own self discoveries. I felt right at home reading this book!"
