Nerd Girls LUV Psych

My first and final Psych SDCC panel.

I began my love of Psych during this past San Diego Comic Con.  I always find it special when you can love a cast FIRST and then their show.  I came straight from SDCC, began my Psych marathon and haven't looked back since!  I am only on season five as of late, so I asked THREE of my favorite Psych-Os to help me spread the Psych LUV!
Since Megan is new to the awesomness that is "Psych" she asked that I write a little something up! I honestly can't remember the first time I watched, but it was from the beginning. I was hooked not just because of the humor but because of the friendship between Shawn & Gus. My BFF and myself actually will refer to each other as the "Shawn to my Gus" or the "Gus to my Shawn." I've heard it both ways.  When "Psych" had their slumber party, we actually Skype'd each other (we live in different states) so we could watch it together.

I'll be honest, the show hit a bit of a rough patch one season but any show that's on for this long has a season like that. It's been on the right track though lately bringing the humor to murder and crime only the way "Psych" can. Plus their a real crowd please at San Diego Comic-Con. Their panel always has a few surprises like Dule's tap dancing or a surprise performance with Curt Smith. They give time to Nerd HQ as well to help raise money for Operation Smile.

If you're looking for a show that's a little different than most, then this one is for you! They do a great job of mixing humor with crime but they can bring their A game for dramatic episodes as well. If you want a few episodes to check out I recommend:

Season 1: "Scary Sherry: Bianca's Toast"
Season 2: "American Duos"
Season 3: "Tuesday the 17th"
Season 4:  "High Noon-ish"
Season 5: "Yang 3 in 2D"
Season 6: "Heeeeere's Lassie"
Season 7: "No Country for Two Old Men"

I tuned in for the very first episode of Psych in July 2006. By the time the theme song came on, it clear it was a show with a strong identity - offbeat, uptempo, and smart. The end credits rolled, and I gave the verdict: "This is going to be canceled. I love it." But it wasn't canceled, and three seasons in I was at Psych's very first panel at Comic-con 2009. If there was any tiny way in which I wasn't already won over, the cast and writer/producers obliterated it with their graciousness, humor, and enthusiasm. Not every star is dedicated enough to their project and their fanbase to jump up and tap-dance (like Dule Hill).

I love Psych because it's unafraid to risk being the show it is instead of the show the mainstream thinks it should be, to make obscure jokes and to "be the only black lead on a major cable network."  I love it for being a consistent bright spot in some dark years. But I also love it because from day 1 it has gone out of its way to involve the fandom in new and unique ways.

They wrote fans into the show, had us play games for signed scripts, and drove us mad for years trying to "find the pineapple". I stayed up all night for the Psych Slumber Party just to rewatch episodes alongside fans and cast (via Twitter), with video love letters from the fandom and special skits from the cast in the ad breaks. I sat on the sidewalk all day at Comic-con 2013 to see the Psych Musical almost 6 months early, and was rewarded by being a few feet from the whole cast. I went straight from there to pull an all-nighter on different pavement for the final Comic-con panel, where they made me laugh too hard to be sad about saying goodbye.

I've been in many fandoms for many different things, and nothing quite compares to the mutual love between the Psych cast and crew and its fandom. I have been, am, and always will be proud to call myself Psych-O. I will treasure the show and the friendships it cemented and created. And I will always smile at pineapples. You know that's right.

LAUREN
Psych is one my favorite shows on television. I mean, what's not to love about a fake psychic detective who solves crimes with his best friend while quoting 80's movies? :D The first episode I ever saw was an ode to John Hughes movies called "Murder? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?" Between the comedy highjinks, the dead bodies, and the hidden pineapples, Psych is easily one of the best written shows on t.v.

This year at Comic Con I was able to see a special sneak peak of Psych: The Musical. It was everything I could possible hope for and more! The writing, the comedic timing, and the improvisation of the actors and writing team is incomparable.

Some of my favorite episodes include "American Duos" from Season 2, with a hilarious guest appearance from Tim Curry, "Disco Didn't Die, It was Murdered" from Season 3, "Shawn Takes a Shot in the Dark" from Season 4, and every episode with Cary Ewles {Wesley from "A Princess Bride"} as British art thief Despereaux!

There's love, crooks, murder, mystery, comedy, action and a whole lot of tomfoolery! If you have never seen Psych NOW is the time to start watching! Seasons 1-6 are currently on Netflix and the musical airs December 15th, with Season 8 premiering in the Spring!

Here are some great moments from Psych:
Carlton Lassiter: Hey, we found prints.
Shawn Spencer: Was he in a little red corvette?
Burton 'Gus' Guster: Under the cherry moon?
Carlton Lassiter: FINGER prints!"

Thank you to fellow Psych-Os Barb, Anne and Lauren!!  I LUV how much we ALL love this show!  I am so sad I caught on so late, but am happy I was able to see them at their LAST Comic Con panel.

What is YOUR favorite Psych episode or quote?!

Nerd Girls LUV David Tennant

Last November I FINALLY caved to the peer pressure and began my Doctor Who journey!  Since then I haven't looked back and I am a full fledge WHOVIAN!  I began with the reboot and Chris as the Doctor.  He was AMAZING, so it took me a bit to jump on the David train.  It wasn't until Girl in the Fireplace, that David became my full time Doctor!

Since then I have seen as much of David as I can.  It was fun going back and watching Harry Potter 4 and Fright Night with him.  I am a huge Potterhead and vampire lover so he just enhances my love of those movies even more.  And with the discovery that I do indeed have BBCA, I can enjoy all their amazing shows as well!

Recently BBCA's site Anglophenia posted a link to Hamlet starting David.  I watched their 20 minute clip and was astounded by his acting once more!  He can give such amazing emotion.  You can watch the entire play here on PBS website.
Also thanks to BBCA I am now HOOKED on Broadchurch.  It is over in the UK and now playing here in the US so I am avoiding all spoilers as much as possible.  I haven't had any as of yet!  I cannot wait to see how this mystery plays out and I love hearing David's scottish accent!  You NEED to be watching this addicting series.  What an intriguing mystery!

See him in:
*Doctor Who
*Broadchurch
*Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
*Fright Night
*The Decoy Bride
*How to Train Your Dragon
*The Escape Artist

Nerd Girls LUV Joshua Jackson

THAT smile!!  ahhhhh.  Ok drooling done.  My love for Josh started WAY back in 1992 with a little movie entitled The Mighty Ducks.  Not only did it spark my love for Josh, but also my love for hockey!  After that movie I wanted everything LA Kings, San Jose Sharks and of course Anaheim Mighty Ducks.  I even went to an Kings vs. Ducks game for my birthday that year and this past year!
So of course when I began going to San Diego Comic Con, I was always on the look out for him.  It wasn't until 2012, the last year Fringe was there, that the entire cast was doing a signing at the WB booth.  I was parked in Ballroom 20 that entire day, so I grabbed a bathroom pass and hightailed it down to the booth for at least some photos.  I got the shot above and was a happy fan-girl!

The year before this encounter, 2011, he was at Comic Con as well promoting Fringe and filming Pacey-Con.  I LOVE this video and it just shows what a great personality and sense of humor he has about his work.

Nerd Girls LUV Nathan Fillion

How could you not fall in love after looking at THIS picture?!  I found Firefly at my very first San Diego Comic Con in 2009.  I went home, marathoned the show and movie and when I was done crying my eyes out, I was officially a Browncoat!  Since then I have watched the show many times, it is forever in my Netflix queue and I have told everyone that will listen to watch!  Nathan is also a big supporter of the Kids Need to Read charity.  Being a pre-school teacher, this is a huge belief of mine and I am so happy to see someone of his level of fame, getting the word out there!
Nathan is the official/unofficial Mayor of Comic Con.  In the five years I have been going, there is not a place he isn't!  My second year he tweeted that he was at the CA Browncoats booth signing Serenity Comics for charity.  I ran the entire length of the exhibition floor to get there.  I arrived without my camera and without any money!  The Hunny was close behind with both and I was able to get him to sign my comic and that made that years con!

My 3rd year Nerd HQ tweeted out that tickets to Nathan's Conversations for a Cause were still available!  We just happened to be right down the street so ran over and got it!  He has so many great stories, is so personable and loving towards his fans!

Last year we were able to attend the 10th anniversary reunion for Firefly and that was a nerd's dream come true.  The cast was great and you could really tell how all of them were grateful for our love after all these years!
This year's Comic Con was extra special because we got to attend the Serenity screening at Nerd HQ on the field of Petco Park.  It was amazing to see all the Browncoats out in full force and to have Nathan AND Alan there to introduce the movie and do a bit of commentary!  How often can you say you watched a movie WITH the stars!?

Then Sunday, after five years of attending Comic Con, I was finally able to meet the Mayor himself! We were all surprised that it wasn't just Nathan in the photo booth.  Alan Tudyk was there too.  Nathan liked my Doctor cosplay and we shot the photo quickly.  When it was over I gave them both a big squeeze, BUT apparently it was a BIT TOO BIG for Nathan as he was "OUCH why'd you do that?!"  I then said sorry, sorry, sorry and ran away.  He was laughing of course, but I guess I don't know my own strength!

Nerd Girls LUV Matt Smith

YES go ahead and swoon over this picture, I'll give you a minute....!

I have to be honest in my Doctor Who discovery, it was hard for me to let go of David Tennant as the Doctor.  David is MY Doctor, but as a whole, series 5 and 6 of Doctor Who are my most favorites.  I love the playfulness and youth that Matt brings to the role.  But what has really made me a huge fan of his, is him as a person.  Seeing him with his fans and embracing everything Doctor Who is something you don't see often, especially with something as big as Who.
I have never seen bad press on him.  He is always so happy, smiling and excited to be wherever he is.  I especially loved the thank you video he did to fans of Doctor Who {see video below}, his Nerd HQ Conversations for a Cause this year was so fun to watch and all the kind things he did during The Nerdist SDCC podcast!  He is such a genuine human being who, you can tell, enjoys every minute of what he is doing!  I love the a personal stories fans have, like Crazy 4 Comic Con in the picture above!
Then finally at SDCC 2014 The Gamer Geek and I were able to have our very own Matt Smith experience!  The entire ordeal was chaotic to say the least, but Matt himself made us forget all of that the moment we stepped into his presence.  Even after being rushed through hundreds of people in only a couple hours, Matt greeted us with a warm and friendly hello and a a big smile!

Nerd Girls LUV Sam Witwer

THIS is the picture that made me a Sam Witwer fan.  I was in NYC for Christmas of 2010.  After getting off at a subway station, I saw huge amounts of these promo posters.  Vampire, werewolf and ghost living together.  I literally stopped in my tracks as my group walked ahead.  I took a picture to remember the January premiΓ¨re date. I was sold at vampire.  I got the Hunny to try Being Human out with me and we have been hooked ever since!
I was obviously a huge fan upon just seeing him {he is gorgeous } but it wasn't until the Being Human panel at SDCC in 2011 that I became a fan of him as a person.  The way he interacted with his cast mates, his sense of humor and his nerdiness for Star Wars made him into a down to Earth real person!  That same year at SDCC I was relaxing in front of the Hard Rock Hotel and guess who walks by?  The  entire cast of Being Human!  I went into full fan-girl mode but was still able to snap a few pictures {isn't SDCC a magical place?!}.  A while later they walked back by and hung out right in front of us and I was able to get my picture with all of them!
SDCC 2011 was MADE!
Life got even better at Phoenix Comic Con this year were I was able to meet Sam twice more!  Both times he was so sweet.  Especially when I saw him in our hotel lobby and he graciously smiled for a picture.

Nerd Girls LUV Benedict Cumberbatch

There are so many wonderful actors that I LOVE and appreciate, so I wanted to begin to pay tribute to them here and help others discover new shows/movies you may not have heard about!  BUT if you are a NERD GIRL you probably ALREADY have a crush like me on these leading men, so let's all swoon TOGETHER!

My very first Nerd Girls LUV is going to be my newest fan girl crush:  Benedict Cumberbatch.  Looks are never the first thing that attracts me to a celebrity {or person in general}.  It is always their performance and how they treat their fans.  Those things always come first and that is when I begin my fan-girl obsession.

I had heard so much about the show Sherlock that one day I FINALLY sat down to watch it.  The very first episode had me hooked and I told the Hunny that he HAD to watch this with me.  We then marathoned the two seasons for the next two weekends.

Benedict acted brilliantly in this series.  So much so, that made he made me want to find out as much as I could about him.  Star Trek Into Darkness was just being released, so there were TONS of new interviews I could watch or listen to.  My favorite had to be when he was on the Graham Norton Show.

Ok totally got side tracked by watching that video again!  But isn't he just the sweetest and most gracious guy!  You can tell that he is a very intelligent guy, but he does not take himself too seriously which I love.  Too many actors end up getting a big head or are so unreachable and it is hard to relate to them.  Benedict is not.  He is very playful and fun in all of his interviews and takes each and everyone of them seriously.
Lastly, this picture!  How could you NOT love the guy.  You can also see the VIDEO of the now infamous Cumberbomb on Tumblr of course...where else?!
