Where To Find Me at SDCC 2015!

I am heading down to San Diego Comic Con TOMORROW nerds and it STILL doesn't feel real. Last year I had JUST moved to LA, so I still felt like a San Diegian. NOW I am officially an Los Angeleno and going down to SDCC is feeling like a surreal experience. Being separated from San Diego makes SDCC feel different. I'm not sure I'm as prepared as I have been in the past. Schedule wise I am, but mentally...my mind isn't trying to think about all the crazy things I've signed up for.

BUT none the less...SDCC is ALMOST here and when I finally arrive in San Diego and see the convention center and see the banners, I'll realize that I am officially home.

MY FAVE part of SDCC is seeing all of my nerd friends! It is like a HUGE family reunion! Hopefully I can see you ALL at one of these amazing events!

Tuesday: The Nerd Fu podcast! I cannot wait to FINALLY podcast with some of my favorite nerds!!

Wednesday Preview Night:

Dragon's Den {315 10th Ave.} 9pm-12am.

Thursday:

Geeks Go Glam at the San Diego Public Library Patio. Tickets on sale NOW.  We will not be selling tickets at the door. SO MUCH AWESOME will be happening! Hope to see you there!

Friday:
SherlockeDCC SOLD OUT at the San Diego Central Library!

Saturday:
Hannibal panel Ballroom 20, 5pm. Get your flower crowns ready!

Sunday:
Phineas & Ferb panel 10am in room 6BCF. It will be so sad to say good bye to such an amazing show.

What are you nerds most excited about? What are your MUST see panels? I HOPE I'll be seeing you at any of these events! Let me know in the comments below! Safe travels nerds! xx

San Diego Comic Con 2014 - The Swag

Since my first year at SDCC the swag count has gone down dramatically.  This year has been the least I have ever seen.  But that means that the things I do acquire are of higher quality and mean more to me.  Here are a few of my favorites and a few things that took my money!
This year everyone at the SherlockeDCC party got an awesome swag bag!  I am so excited to read my High Voltage Magazines!  They are THE people to talk to if you want to learn about awesome music {other than our very own Music Maven}!  Make sure you check out their weekly podcast and follow them on Twitter!
Thanks to Adagio Teas, I will be sipping some yummy SherlockeDCC tea blend while writing all my wrap up posts!
One of my favorite swags from the very beginning has been the HUGE bags that are given out.  I always collect as many as I can and a LOT of them went into making my Swag Bag Dress this year!  None have ever come more in handy than NBC's Constantine bag!  There was a freak summer shower while waiting in the Lego line and it kept me nice and dry!  I had to take care of my shoes :)
Speaking of the Lego line, I won my very FIRST Lego Mini Figure...UNI-KITTY!!!!  It was a two hour wait in the rain for one second of pure fright, but I won!!  Four out of six in our group did.  I have never worked so hard for swag in my life and it was completely worth it!  I cannot wait to try again next year!
It seemed like outside the con was where it was at for SDCC swag!  You didn't need a badge to play the Simpson's carnival game outside the Hilton Bayfront!  Pink donuts?  Yes please!
Nerd HQ had its annual mini con at Pet Co Park and jumping in the photo booth for some free pictures was one of my favorite things to do!  They even upload them straight away to your Facebook, Twitter, email and Instagram!
The best swag inside the con goes to The Outlander booth!  Along with highly attractive booth cosplayers, they were one of THE busiest booths around because of their gorgeous set up and awesome swag!  The Music Maven {Outlander's BIGGEST fan} went to the booth everyday!  She sadly missed out on the tee and tote, but was happy with the badges, shot glass, iPhone cover and bandana!
Now for what I bought!  My very first stop on Preview Night was the BBC America booth!  It was there that I bought Sherlock stuff for The Music Maven and Doctor Who stuff for myself and The Gamer Geek.  Upon exiting the booth though, I didn't see the heart tee and David Tennant tank!  It took until mid Sunday for me to make it back and purchase those.  I was so happy to have them take my money for a second time!  I was even wearing my hat on Sunday and they remembered me!

What was your favorite swag of the con?!  Did you notice the lack of it on the floor?!  One I'm sad I missed out on was the HUGE Reptar swag bag and the Jurassic World poster.

San Diego Comic Con 2014 - Night Two {SherlockeDCC}

Last year The Nerdy Girlie co-hosted the first SherlockeDCC Party at San Diego Comic Con along with the Baker Street Babes, Being Geek Chic, Sherlock DC, and Cara McGee.  Almost as soon as last year’s party ended we started making plans for this year’s party, and with the absence of any official Sherlock panels or events at SDCC, the fans were really clamoring for a party to celebrate all things Sherlock.  It was our absolute pleasure to play host to 500 party guests on Friday night.
Our fabulous view from the 9th floor of the San Diego Central Library

The party took place on the 9th floor of the beautiful San Diego Central Library.  The venue was amazing with stunning views of Petco Park, the bay, and the Gaslamp District.  We can’t say enough about the amazing staff at the San Diego Central Library – they went above and beyond to make sure the SherlockeDCC Party went off without a hitch.
Gemeni performs at SherlockeDCC

Swag bags, food, Sherlock themed drinks, a Shoot Sherlock game, custom Sherlock manicures, merch, vendors, and a huge raffle awaited party goers.  The party was a huge success and we couldn’t have done it without our generous sponsors and contributors.
SherlockeDCC attendees had fun wearing Sherlock attire and deerstalkers provided by Elope, Inc.

Thanks to the following sponsors and contributors – please visit their websites and support them! Remember to tell them you were at the SherlockeDCC Party!  Thank you to the SherlockeDCC Sponsors without which we would have no party!
Raffle table swag!

SherlockeDCC Contributors who made our raffle amazing!

Gina Jasinski Jewelry
Ashley at Geek Thread

And finally, thank you to our wonderful volunteers who did everything from filling swag bags to manning the many tables at the party.  You took time out of your SDCC experience to make our party amazing and you are amazing!

We are forever grateful to these amazing volunteers:

My Top 10 Favorite Nerd Moments of 2013 🀩

✨ 2026 Author's Note ✨

Reading this post from 2013 is like opening a time capsule — and the A Silent Film shows mentioned at #3 ended up being the spark that started everything. Those November 2013 concerts with The Music Maven and The Gamer Geek are woven into the DNA of my debut novel Musical Awakening. June Snow, the protagonist, is the girl who went to those shows.

The trip to England mentioned at the end of this post? That became the Oxford chapters of the novel.

πŸ“– Read Musical Awakening on Amazon — the book that 2013 Megan didn't know she was already writing. 🎢

2013 has been one of the best years of my life. I have gotten to do so many amazing things and meet so many wonderful people!  My life is truly blessed and I am thankful for everyday that I get to do what I LOVE! Here are my favorite moments from this perfect year!

Geek Girls Gab with The Baker Street Babe founder Kristina

I run the Baker Street Babes Podcast, which is an all-female Sherlock Holmes podcast, blog, and event thing. It's just over two years old and we've been on everything from The Today Show to the New York Times plus having run events in New York, London, and San Diego. Sherlock Holmes is king right now and we're enjoying the ride. Our podcast can be found on iTunes, Libsyn, and AudioBoo. We're on twitter, tumblr, and facebook.
The Nerdy Girlie:  What is your 1st nerd memory?
Kristina:  I was obsessed with dinosaurs as a kid. I knew all the names and had more books and plushies of the damn things that I can ever remember. I distinctly remember playing with a  stick in third grade, pretending it was a pterodactyl. Otherwise I was a HUGE Power Rangers nerd when I was in like first grade. I made my mother wait in line for hours to get the toys. I'm still a bit dinosaur enthusiast (I was originally going to go to school for palaeontology but didn't fancy going to Montana), but I've lost my love for Power Rangers and any sort of super heroes. Sorry Kimberly.
TNG:  How and why did you start blogging?
Kristina:  I've always loved to write and I really liked the idea of writing for other people in a more casual setting. I tried having a blog while I lived in Japan, Curly In Japan, which was only sorta successful as I didn't update it all that much. When I started the podcast, I knew I needed and wanted a website to go along with it and as we became more popular, we started providing more content. We have a rather successful tumblr and we’re constantly building up our website with new articles and features. It’s constantly evolving and I’m learning every day.

TNG:  YOUR favorite blog?
Kristina:  I wish I had a less clichΓ© answer, but I just genuinely love Post Secret, which I don’t know if that necessarily counts as a blog. It’s cathartic to check it every Sunday and see how many anonymous people I connect with. I just really love learning about other people, which is why I love interviewing people. I’m a curious being and Post Secret satiates that in a very special way.
TNG:  What is your favorite thing/things to nerd out about?
Kristina:  Obviously Sherlock (and Sherlock Holmes in general) is pretty high on my nerd list, I think that goes without saying. I’m also a massive Doctor Who fan and nearly fell off my bed as I flailed when Peter Capaldi was announced as the 12th Doctor. Hornblower is incredibly close to my heart and I’m a hardcore Archie Kennedy fangirl (be still my heart baby Jamie Bamber). My more obscure nerdoms are foreign musicals. I love language, even though I suck at learning them, and while I’ve never been a huge music (or frankly, musical) fan, there’s something about foreign musicals that intrigue me. I kind of love not knowing exactly what they’re saying, but instead figuring it out for myself just through context clues and feeling it. My favorites are Elisabeth das Musical, Le Roi Soleil, Rebecca, and Mozart L’Opera Rock. I really recommend listening to them all and, if you can, watching. Mozart L’Opera Rock is a bit bizarre, but they’re all really pretty.
TNG:  Any tips for San Diego Comic Con?
Kristina:  You will never be ready for San Diego Comic Con.

No, seriously.

This was the first year I went and no matter how much I read or how many questions I asked, I was not ready. It was so mental and so insane, but in a great way. I was both ecstatically happy and horribly overwhelmed at the same time. I’m also insane because I decided my first SDCC was the perfect time to throw a giant Sherlock party. Thankfully SherlockeDCC was a huge success (with MANY thanks to Megan of course!)

My main tip is to make sure you have a few days to recover. I’ve never been so exhausted in my life as I was post-SDCC. It took me nearly a week to really recover.

TNG:  Girlie things you love?
Kristina:  Growing up I wasn’t necessarily a tomboy, but I wasn’t into any girlie things. After I went to London for my semester abroad in undergrad, I came back wearing dresses and skirts and I’ve developed a handbag problem. I also have five piercings in each ear and a nose ring so I’m really big on earrings and such. I own so many nerdy earrings and I just want more.
Thank you Kristina for answering our questions!  It has been such a pleasure to have her as a friend and bond through party planning!  I loved learning more about her through this interview and cannot wait to plan more epic parties together!  Check out The Baker Street Babes for EVERYTHING Sherlock and follow her on Twitter: @CurlyFourEyes.

Nerd Crafts: Sherlock Wallpaper Headband

I wanted a little something more for my SherlockeDCC party outfit during this year's SDCC and a Twitter friend {@truelondoner123} of mine posted this DIY and said it was super simple!  So with her encouragement I made my own attempt at the project, with a lil twist!
Supplies:
*Headband
*Printer
*Paper
*Tape
*Smiley face stickers

Step one:  Print out the wallpaper image.
Step two:  Give the image a minute or so to dry as it uses a lot of ink.  Once done cute out a long strip that will cover the headband.
Step three:  Wrap your strip around the headband and secure with tape on the underside of the headband.

Step four:  Add your smiley face sticker where you like!
This project was incredibly simple and cheap.  The headband pack I purchased at Target and got three of them.  The smiley face stickers were also a Target purchase.  Everything else I already had at home.  This was defiantly a spur of the moment project the day before our SherlockeDCC party.  I was so happy with it and got many compliments on it!

I always love seeing your take on our Nerd Crafts, so please send pictures and of course leave comments below!

I have been DYING to create a vlog post for you all, but was unsure of what to say!  With SDCC upon us in only ONE month, I thought this vlog would be a great way to get to know me a bit better and let you know what I have planned for SDCC so far.  It is so fun to see and hear someone after only communicating with them online, {SDCC Unofficial Blog, The Con Fluence and An Englishman in San Diego} these fellow nerds inspired me to create this!

Hope you enjoy!

Here are the buttons I promised!  I just ordered them and they will arrive in time for SDCC.  I only have 200 though, so get them while you can!  I will definitely have them at the SherlockeDCC party so hope you can attend!!
