This is what a real weekday looks like for my husband and I right now, working from home, raising a puppy, trying to stay consistent with fitness, and figuring out how to spend time together in the middle of it all!
Some days feel smoothMost feel chaotic 😂
☀️ MORNING
The mornings revolve around Molly.
She thrives on a simple rhythm:
food → movement → potty → rest
I’m up around 6:30AM, but first coffee ☕️
7AM we are straight outside for potty
Then breakfast in the kitchen, her older sister Roxy in the bedroom
A walk + commands + gentle supervised playing with Roxy
Then back down for her first nap at 8AM
👉 The biggest thing we’ve learned in the first few weeks is:
Structure makes everything easier for her and for us!
While Molly naps:
Husband walks Roxy
Both start our work day
Drink more coffee ☕️
💻 MIDDAY
Because we both work from home, our day is a mix of:
Meetings
Quick breaks
And very intentional puppy time
When Molly wakes up at 10AM, my husband takes this hour shift:
Potty
Short training sessions, she just learned “paw”!
A quick “job walk”
Then back down for another nap at 11AM
We’re not doing anything fancy for commands just reinforcing the most important basics:
Leave it
Sit
Place
Stay
Look
Down
Center
Touch
👉 It’s important to us that she is trained to be a dog that can stay safe with us and around others on hikes and runs.
☀️ AFTERNOON
This is the one part of the day we protect at all costs:
👉 Molly’s 2–4PM nap
That’s our:
Best chance for a smooth night, less baby shark
Chance to breathe and finish up the work day
🧗🏻♀️ FITNESS
We haven’t been consistent with the gym since Molly came into our family.
And honestly that’s been the biggest adjustment for me.
When we do get to go to the gym together, it’s usually during one of Molly’s naps.
No perfect routine.
No strict schedule.
If we have the window, we take it!
And sometimes we can't due to work schedules. But we are slowly getting back to a routine. And we can’t wait. Going to the gym together is our favorite part of the day!
💖 MARRIAGE
Working from home together means we "see" each other all day.
But that doesn’t mean quality time.
Most of our connection happens in small ways:
walking the dogs together
quick check-ins between meetings
dinner and an episode of The Pitt
It’s not glamorous, but it’s ours.
🌜 EVENING
Evenings are slower and more structured:
Dinner for Molly
Walks with both dogs together
Calm time with a KONG filled with pumpkin and kibble
A short solo Molly walk and final potty trip
And then:
👉 into her crate, no fuss, end day. The Husband and I hug, take a deep breath. We made it through another day!
This season of life isn’t about having it all perfectly figured out. Which was very hard for me to come to terms with. I love structure.
I've learned it's about:
Building sustainable routines
Showing up consistently for Molly and each other
Finding small moments together
And honestly…
a lot of coffee ☕️!
