The best part of getting married later in life is confidence, boundaries and wisdom.
- We had the confidence to create the day together.
- The boundaries to keep it intimate.
- And the wisdom to know what to do on our own and what to ask help for.
When we first started talking about our wedding we always wanted something intimate. Throughout the planning process we realized we could keep it intimate but also bring in people to make the day easier and let us celebrate and enjoy the day together.
I had loved The Ramble Hotel since it was built in 2018. I knew that my husband would love it to. It is unique, beautiful and intimate. After our tour, we signed for our October 6, 2024 wedding date. It would be a morning ceremony and afternoon reception. The morning had the most perfect weather for us to be outside and enjoy the emerging Autumn weather and share with our guests the best of what Colorado has to offer.
As a life long creative the most important vendor for me, was photographer. When I moved to Denver in 2016 I followed Josie on Instagram and they were the first vendor I called and booked when we got engaged in October 2023. She took our engagement photos as well as our wedding day photos and I couldn't be more happy. They are an amazing presence and their photography perfectly captured the day and I love reliving the memories through her art.
For the decor, I had a split personality. I wanted to embrace autumn but also wanted a romantic classic feel. So why not have both?! For the ceremony I had an autumn palette and for the reception a classic look. I loved both. Looking back I would have done just the classic look but I'm not mad about it. Do what makes you happy is the lesson here.
The night before the wedding we stayed at the hotel. My hair and makeup artist came to our room at 6AM to start. My husband went over to his mom's room to get ready around 8AM and my girls joined me. I was so happy to have my two best friends with me during this important moment. They have been with me through it all so for it to just be the three amigas was important to me. They got me in my dress, made sure my veil was perfect. The quite morning with them was the perfect way to start my wedding day.
If you are thinking about a first look you have to do it. This was one of my favorite parts of the day. My husband walking into our hotel room and seeing me for the first time, the way he looked at him today and everyday makes me so thankful. He is such a special partner and I always feel, beautiful, calm and supported when he is around. This time together cemented the peace of the day and had us focusing on us and our commitment to each other.
After our first look, we moved into couples portraits. The Ramble Hotel on a Sunday morning was the perfect venue. It was empty and vast, showcasing its grandeur and romance. We were able to connect with each other quietly and enjoy the start of our perfect day.
The Ceremony. We wanted something that was us. Our 4 nieces and nephews walked down the aisle before me. My husband walked down with his mom and brother. One of my brother's officiated, one did a reading and my husband's brother carried the rings. It wasn't a long ceremony but every part was unique and special to us. Which made it that more significant.
For the reception space my very good friend and stylist created the exact atmosphere that I had envisioned. She's known me for 10 years to it was so easy and fun to work with her and made that day even more special knowing someone I loved help me create it.
We opened the reception with our first dance. We had taken lessons and even learned a lift. It was fun to have our lessons together and both be excited to create something together. My brother in law and best friend made us laugh and cry in their speeches, we had a mother/son and father/daughter joint dance. There was music created by our amazing DJ who was also a friend of many years. Including people we love and cherish in all the parts, big and small in our day made the day momentous and something to cherish for the rest of our lives together.
Two years married and 4 years together, my favorite thing about him is his grounding spirit. As a Pisces I am a constant flow, up and down. He is my endless strong steady stream. He is so caring. To me and to our fur babies. I am so glad we met on April 22, 2022. I knew then that lighting had struck.
