The test of any relationship is how you handle the tough parts of life. When we boarded the plane for our honeymoon in England, we never imagined that this would be one of those times.
It was smooth sailing on the flight, through customs and we even got our rental car upgraded because it was our honeymoon! Driving from the Heathrow to downtown London I finally allowed myself to be excited for this trip I had been planning for months. We wanted to wait to pay off our October wedding before heading out on our honeymoon in April. We saved, booked and couldn't wait to start our first international vacation together.
That night we were staying in Watford, close to the Harry Potter experience we had booked for the following day. We couldn't check in until 5PM so we went into London to see some of our favorite fandom places. We parked across form Kings Cross Station and walked to see a scene from Slow Horses, Platform 9 and 3/4 and then to Camden Market for custom leather belts.
This is a photo of a girl who has no idea what was to happen next. Only 7 hours into our honeymoon, we are ready to head back to our car and drive to Watford for the night. As we approach the car, I notice that my scarf is sticking out of the back door. I laugh and point to my husband that he closed the door with it sticking out. He at the same time is noticing a parking ticket on our windshield. He unlocks the doors and we find that all of our things have been stolen, minus the scarf.
All of my things packed at home and ready for our trip. Everything here was stolen.
Do you take all of your favorite things when you travel? I sure did. When I say all of our stuff, I mean everything. We both had our wallets and phones on us. But not our passports. Both of our suitcases, my tote bag and his backpack, gone. This includes, his work computer, my hearing aid charging case, all of our clothes and toiletries, our kindles, our headphones and most importantly our passports.
Neither of us gets mad, we were too shocked. I look a map of London to see where the US Embassy is and we head over straight away. It closes in 30 minutes. We pull up, I jump out and it is closed. A person closing up says we have to come back tomorrow.
With our phones nearing the end of their battery life, we make it to a shopping center to get chargers and clothes. UNIQLO Battersea to the rescue. Exhausted from the day we start the hour drive to Watford. It's past 7PM so we stop at a grocery store for dinner and toiletries.
Finally check into our home for the night, eat our dinner and crash into bed. Tomorrow will be another day of ups and downs...stay tuned.
