Going Back to Comic-Con in My 40s (How I've Changed) ✨

I didn’t expect to come back to an old version of myself.

Not in my 40s.
Not after everything that’s happened.

But here I am,
curled up with Simon, coffee in hand,
fully invested in Fringe like it’s 2008 again!

Figuring Out My Place In Time And Space: FOMO

How does it feel to miss your very first San Diego Comic Con in 8 years?

Like shit.

Everyday I went back and forth as to wether or not I should/could attend.

Geeks Go Glam 2015 hosted with Liz Giorgi.

My ticket arrived in mail and I was like I can go!

Nickelodeon announced a 90's themed booth and panels and I was like I can go!

The rest of The Nerdy Girlie team will be there and I was like I can go!

Then I started pricing out my trip to my brother's wedding in Seattle at the beginning of August and I was like, I can't go. When you start adding up flight, hotel, food, and of course I would want to buy all the things, that TIMES my brother's wedding would be just too much. And mostly importantly it would be irresponsible.

I'm able to get by financially every month. I can splurge a bit on little things here and there and I have a decent amount in my savings. But I want to keep it that way and with my new job, the wedding and ALL the bills, I thought it was the adult decision not to go.
My first SDCC in 2009 with my first con exclusive!

Did it hurt? Of course! All of my favorite people in my favorite place and I wasn't. But what is more important in life? To me after everything I went through with my divorce last year, it is finical and personal independence.

I still want to grow my blog and by writing for Blastr's Fangrrl site, I'm hoping that will come sooner than later. It has been four years now since I began The Nerdy Girlie. Finally getting paid to do my two favorite things, writing and photography is a dream come true. I just need to remember, that I just started doing both and that things take time.
But guess what? This weekend wasn't a total bust. My best girls took me out for pie. The gang met up for dinner and drinks and Ocean Eyes took me to Estes Park and we marathoned Stranger Things. I also tried on my bridesmaid's dress for my brother's wedding and I'm starting to get excited about it. I've never been to Seattle and Ocean Eyes is coming too! It will be a wonderful trip.

I keep saying this, but I need to focus on my memoir 100 Cups Of Coffee. Now that I've gotten you nerds through SDCC 2016. I need to do just that. So it's time to recoup and do another blog break.

Now I need to ask you guys a favor: What do you guys want out of The Nerdy Girlie?

I write for you and me. But I want to make sure that even with all of my personal pieces, that I am still giving you all something you look forward to reading. I look forward to sharing my thoughts with you! It is so therapeutic. I just want to make sure you guys are getting something out of reading my posts. So what follows is a little survey. Fill it out if you want to :)

Create your own user feedback survey

I'm not sure how long the break will be, but I do know that I will be applying for SDCC 2017 press and I will see you guys there next year! Hope everyone had a great time and don't forget to enter our 4th Blog-iversray giveaway! Thank you nerds!! xx

5 Fandom Friday: Favorite Geeky Stores

Are you NEW to 5 Fandom Friday? Welcome and come join along! 5 Fandom Friday was created by myself and Super Space Chick in October of 2014, as a way to get all of our blogger friends keeping on task each week, building a community with our fellow bloggers and connecting with new and old friends once a week! We choose the topics, you do the writing! Let's get inspired together!

Being nerdy and girlie I love me some geeky fashion! I just started writing an Everyday Cosplay monthly or MORE series over on Syfy's Blastr sister site Fangrrl...check it out HERE! So this prompt is right up my alley. Here is where I shop for all my geek chic looks!
1. Jordandene. My most favorite nerd company. Jordan's tees are so versatile. I've styled her shirts in so many different ways! Dressed up, down and cozy style! BUT the moment I saw this Kylo Ren shirt I knew I had to have it and it was paired perfect with this sequin skirt for my birthday night!
2. Geek Fuel. I've order from a ton of nerdy t-shirt sites, but Geek Fuel is my favorite. The length is perfect, the sleeves are perfect and the fact that they put one in every single one of their monthly subscription box is so awesome. Look at this tee....it is Doctor Who and concert related! The best of both of my worlds!
3. Look Human. Did you see my favorite Valentine's Day tees? Well Look Human came through for me to look fashionable and still keep it nerdy! I love the fandom designs mixed with a bit of cheeky fun!
4. Gold Bubble Clothing. I adore this Gold Bubble dress. It fits perfectly and is subtle enough wear at anytime!
5. Louise Edu. It has been two years and counting that Louise has made me an amazing San Diego Comic Con swag bag outfit! Isn't she amazing?! It is a hit every year and I would never ask anyone else to make me such amazing fashion for the nerdy girlie in me!

WOW! I loved this prompt! It is after all what my blog is named for. Nerdy and girlie is how I live my life and if I can share that with the world through fashion even better! Don't forget to share YOUR links over on Twitter for a RT and also share your favorite geeky designers in the comments below!

Happy FRI-YAY nerds!

5 Fandom Friday: Real Life Womances

Are you NEW to 5 Fandom Friday? Welcome and come join along! 5 Fandom Friday was created by myself and Super Space Chick in October of 2014, as a way to get all of our blogger friends keeping on task each week, building a community with our fellow bloggers and connecting with new and old friends once a week! We choose the topics, you do the writing! Let's get inspired together!
The from the day I decided to make the biggest decision of my life, divorce, I've had strong, caring and talented women surrounding me. They were there to lift me up, hold my hand and push me to do what I couldn't see in myself...yet.

This Valentine's Day is dedicated to the women in my life who are always there. Who inspire me. Who love me unconditionally. I love you ladies.
1. My Denver Squad. The moment my BFF Liz {the middle & our Godfather} picked me up at the Denver airport the beginning of December last year, I felt home. Then she inducted me into her squad and I knew I was home. These six women are each amazing in their own way. I've got to spend separate time with almost all them as well and I love the easy bonds we have all made.
2. Lamplighters Squad. If it wasn't for my favorite band A Silent Film I wouldn't have some of my best friends ever. Lindsay is the editor of my book: 100 Cups Of Coffee because we connected via the band. We've talked everyday for almost two years and have only met in person three times. She and all my other Lamplighters have been the reason I go to these shows. It is like a big family reunion every time.
3. LA Music Squad. From the moment I stepped foot on LA soil, the High Voltage Magazine ladies grabbed my hand and drug me out of my boring apartment cocoon and into the amazing night life that is the LA music scene. Late nights, loud music and all the feelz that being in a place of live music creates. These ladies understand the need that has to be fulfilled by our love of music. MORE amazing friendships created by music.
4. The Nerdy Girlie Squad {including The Gamer Geek}. These people ARE family. And family is always there. Always on your side. Through it all.
5. Con Squad. Calls. Texts. Hangouts and blog comments, these ladies have been encouraging in so many ways. When someone tells me I'm brave...that is huge to me. I never thought I was before, but these ladies have said it so many times, that it is starting to sink in. Listening to their stories, seeing their accomplishments and the ways they push themselves is so inspiring. I'm so happy that this blog and Twitter connected us!

Who's ready for Galentine's Day?! I'm so excited to spend it with my CO Squad and to send love to all the ladies I love! If you are reading this I love you! Thank you for taking the time to be apart of my journey! I love you nerds!

Share YOUR loves in the comments below and head over to Twitter and tag me for a RT!

5 Fandom Friday: Five Fictional Vehicles I'd Love To Travel In

Whose ready to do some nerdy traveling?! Sci fi and fantasy has always been a huge part of my life. So picking five fictional vehicles to travel in was no sweat for me!
1. The Delorean. Since my very first cosplay EVER was Marty McFly, you KNOW that the Delorean had to be number one on my list! The Back To The Future trilogy is up there at the top of my all time favorite movies list! I love the first, but the second one has always been my favorite!
2.  The TARDIS. My favorite cosplay to do is The Doctor. Always The Doctor! The photo above was taken at Phoenix Comic Con. It was a spur of the moment trip and it was one of the first cons I ever dressed up at! I even DIYed my shoes and hair clip! Where would I go if I could travel through space and time?! ANYWHERE as long as it was with 10 :)
3. The Jurassic Park Jeep. Another ALL TIME favorite film! I MIGHT have screamed when I saw this on the street at SDCC 2015! I don't care how dangerous the park is...if it ever opens, I'll be on the first helicopter there!

4. The Independence Day UFO. THOUGH it would most likely make me sick...I would love to be a passenger with Jeff Goldblum! #nerdswoon. To see outer space would be an amazing and unthinkable dream. Also Independence Day is a top ten favorite flick of mine. Fingers crossed they do not mess up the sequel!
5. The Hogwarts Express. Probably my favorite movie franchise of all time. If I was on the Hogwarts Express on my way to Hogwarts....my nerd heart might explode! #Potterhead

What a fun topic! I predict a LOT of TARDIS and Hogwarts Express picks will be made! :) Tweet me so I can find out and RT your posts! Thank you for participating nerds...Super Space Chick will be announcing August prompts over on her site soon!!

Nerd HQ 2015 Wrap Up

Confession: I only spent about 2-3 hours at Comic-Con this year.  If you needed to find me, the place I spent the most time was Nerd HQ.  It’s no secret that Nerd HQ has a special place in my heart. And this year, my con experience wasn’t so much about the celebrities & panels as it was more about the people. I’ve met life-long friends specifically through Nerd HQ, and so my heart just feels that pull every July to be there and make that a priority. I always adore HQ, and this year was no different.

The New Children’s Museum was the venue this year – and I loved it. The Nerd Machine had the entire 3 floors of the building to create a haven for nerds. The bottom floor was for the Conversations for a Cause (which you can see on the Nerd Machine’s YouTube page), the main floor for hanging out, taking photos, and dancing, while the top floor was devoted to gaming.  Again, HQ was FREE to enter, and any Conversation ticket or Smiles for Smiles went to Operation Smile.

I was lucky this year and scored 5 different Conversations for a Cause:  Zac Levi, Mr. Robot, Nathan Fillion, Badass Women, and The Maze Runner: Scorch Trials. Again, the tickets were $22 and all proceeds went to Operation Smile. With every sold out panel, 16 children will now be able to smile freely. THAT’S INCREDIBLE. There were so many panels this year, and some panelists included: Joss Whedon, Supernatural, The Last Ship, William Shatner, and the founders of Operation Smile (I encourage you to check that one out.)
There were also many old & new faces at the photo booths for Smiles for Smiles this year. Staples like Yvonne Strahovski, Nathan Fillion, and Alan Tudyk were around and some new faces like Hayley Atwell, Clark Gregg, Tyler Posey, and the cast of Con Man joined in on the photo booth fun. Unfortunately, Zac didn’t have a Smiles photo opportunity this year – but folks... he was BUSY. I know if he could have squeezed any more time in his day to do one, he would have. But there is always next year if you missed out to meet the incredible Mr. Levi.
This year there were TWO nerd parties – and they were EPIC.  I went to both this year, and each night was incredibly fun.  It was great to let loose and blow off some steam and just HAVE FUN.  And bonus, a bunch of celebs would often come down to the dance floor and party with us nerds.  But for future HQ parties I have a general plea:  please DO NOT record/take a pic if a celebrity decides to join you on the dance floor.  PLEASE.  They are there to have fun and blow off steam too... and wouldn’t you rather DANCE with your favorite celebrity than take a blurry picture of it?  I know I would!  Everyone is way more comfortable if phones aren’t always out and everyone can just dance together.  I know it’s tempting, but just try and enjoy the memory instead of getting in someone’s face with your phone.  Trust me, you’ll remember the moment!
Overall I think everything worked really smoothly at HQ this year. The RFID tags worked SO MUCH BETTER than last year and the registration process was generally efficient and easy. The app seemed to be less glitchy and every announcement was either tweeted out or had a push notification on the app. No stadium seating for the Conversations were a bit of a bummer, but they did have TVs in the panel room broadcasting if you couldn’t see. While last year felt a bit crowded at Petco, this year had more of a relaxed/hang out vibe. It wasn’t complete wall to wall people (although traffic was steady) and you truly felt like you could sit on a couch, charge your phone, and chat with people.
Like I said, for me, this year wasn’t about the celebrities... it was about so so much more.  Last week was about reconnecting and strengthening bonds with friends, giving to an amazing organization, having FUN, and forgetting the outside world for a while.

I haven't felt like I've truly been able to just breathe and let loose in a long time. But HQ was so good for my soul. It changed me yet again. Thank you, nerds... thank you for laughing with me, smiling with me, giving EPIC hugs, crying with me, and dancin’ with me. You all made this a damn near perfect trip.
It costs nothing to be kind, and I have been blessed beyond measure.  <3

I hope your Nerd HQ experience was just as amazing as mine.  Onward to NerdHq 2016!  As always, thank you for reading! Xoxo

5 Fandom Friday: Five Favorite Swags of SDCC 2015

WE made it nerds to the Friday after SDCC! Everyone recovered?! Luckily I had Monday to recover and have been working all week....boo! LOL This post was originally 5 favorite con purchases...but I'm trying to save a bit and I got so much awesome swag that I just had to share with you my favorites!! It was HARD to narrow it down to five, so I threw in a bonus!
1. Farewell to Phineas and Ferb Poster. The one and only panel I attended at SDCC 2015 was the farewell to Phineas and Ferb. I started watching the show when I began work at a pre-school in 2009. The  four kids who introduced the show to me back then are like my children and it was nice to be able to bring this poster to them after the con ended! BONUS points about why these kids are amazing...one knew what my tattoo was and what it meant! My nerdy-ness rubbed off!
2. SDCC Programs Guide. I was so busy this con that I forgot to even LOOK at the programs guide until I left the con. I ALMOST gave this one away! It was super surreal to see my name in a book that I've read every year for seven years and the REASON I started this blog! WOWAZA!
3. The Walking Dead bag. I LOVE me a good old fashion swag bag and add on one of my FAVE shows and you gotta a winner. I was lucky enough to walk by the booth who were handing these out and easily snatched up two...and then came back again on Sunday and got a 3rd! I love taking these grocery shopping with me, they always start the best CON-versations!
4. Photo booth photos. I had a LOT of different FEELS at this con. It was very different. BUT looking back on these photos make me feel soooooooooo LOVED and happy. I cannot wait to get these up on my wall to remind me everyday, why I LIVE, LOVE and BLOG!
5. SherlockeDCC tea. I hate to toot my own horn, but our SherlockeDCC party swag is pretty amazeballs! LOOK at that awesome tin full of CUSTOM tea from Adagio!

There was tooooooo much awesome at SDCC this year. SO JUST ONE MORE!
6. Nerdy Cards Against Humanity from Wattpad. I've NEVER played CAH but have been dying too and NOW I have some awesome nerdy cards to LOL over the entire time! Thanks Wattpad for providing them for our Geeks Go Glam party guests!

Should I say it again...this was one of my FAVE 5 Fandom Friday posts ever! It was so joyful to reminisce about an amazing con! I cannot wait to see your posts, so make sure you tag me on Twitter for a RT! Share your favorites in the comments below too!
