5 Fandom Friday: 5 Films I'm Excited For in 2017

Are you NEW to 5 Fandom Friday? We have a GREAT movie theater here in Denver called The Alamo. It is funny, witty and serves dinner while you watch! I love going and getting a BIG Diet Coke, buttery pop-corn and french fries! I'm also happy to finally be done working at a theater! LOL So now it is just a fun time to me. Here are the movies that are on my calendar for 2017!

1. La La Land {out now}. If there was any movie out there made just for me it has to be this! LA, music and dancing! I am DYING to see this colorful adventure!

2. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. {May 5, 2017}. The first GotG was and is to this day my favorite Marvel film. This one sounds, looks and laughs just the same! I cannot wait! I just made Ocean Eyes watch the first one for the first time {GASP!} and I'm still in love. I was so happy to share such a great film with him and have him be excited about it too!

3. Star Wars: Episode VIII. {December 15, 2017}. Episode VII was Ocean Eyes' and my first movie together! To have a new Episode was so exhilarating and with Rouge One being such a great story as well I cannot wait to continue on in their universe!

4. John Wick 2 {February 10, 2017}. Now this was a film that Ocean Eyes made me fall in love with! John Wick flew completely under my radar and I was super hesitant to even watch it. But as the good girlfriend I am, I bit my tough and ate my words! I am so excited to see this next one! Can you say Valentine's date?!

5. Beauty and the Beast {March 17, 2017}. I am so happy to be able to see Emma Watson again, to see one of my favorite Disney movies brought to REAL life and to have another excuse to hear Ewan McGregor's voice! LOL

Why You Should Go See Independence Day Resergence

Twenty years ago a movie came out that changed my life. I saw it in the theaters multiple times, I had the poster hanging on my bedroom wall and when the VHS came out I paused and played the President's ending speech until I had it all written down so I could memorize.

Nerd.

That movie was Independence Day. It began my love of all things alien, disaster and sci fi films.To this day it remains one of my top ten favorite films of all time. I had forgotten the sequel was coming out this past weekend. I made myself not look at any of the trailers or read any of the news stories. All I knew was that Jeff Goldblum would be returning and that was enough for me.

So this past weekend, I put on my American flag tank, put on an alien themed button by Craft Boner and grabbed Ocean Eyes who is also a huge ID4 fan and we went into ID4 2 blind. Which I am so happy for. From the moment the lights went down, until the credits rolled I was the happiest person in that theater and here's why.

{spoilers ahead.}

1. The future looks bright. Twenty years later on July 4th 2016 and all of the alien's technology has advanced our world completely! Flying cars, moon bases and the best of all world peace. Fighting for a common goal has transformed society. One might wish an alien invasion {Trump} could happen now to get us all united now.

2. The gang is all here. I knew Jeff Goldblum would be in the film, but I was happyily surprised to see Bill Pullman, Vivica A Fox, Judd Hirch and Brent Spiner. I loved that the kids returned with larger rolls though as different actors. And Roman Emmerich returns to write and direct! The only one missing?! Adam Baldwin!

3. Everything is bigger and better. The alien ships are bigger, the aliens are bigger and our defenses are larger than ever. Area 51 has grown and now we have a defense base on the moon!

4. More aliens. We have them locked up in Area 51, the queen arrives with even more of her spawn and new and a new and different one arrive via a worm hole {I die}.

5. The series is taking launch. The ending of the movie leaves the story open to even more advancements in technology and interstellar travel and war!

The twenty year wait was worth it. I never thought they would make another ID4 movie and I might have been more than a bit skeptical. But the script, the effects and the actors were amazing! I cannot wait to see what grows from the franchise now!

Did you all see it?! I heard the reviews were bad, but I don't read those! I love it and cannot wait to see it again! Bring on ID4 3!

A Nerdtastic Weekend

Usually my weekends are pretty nerdy, tame, but nerdy.  But this past weekend, was an explosion of all things I nerd out about!  Of course we have to begin with the 50th Anniversary of a certain show!

To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who, my good Twitter/nerdy/SDCC friend Sarah threw an amazing party!  She decorated her entire house to look like the inside of the TARDIS, had amazing food, fun games and amazing gift bags!  There were about twenty nerds in attendance all dressed in Doctor Who theme of course! It was so fun to watch the show with other Whovians and experience it all together for the very first time!

After all the amazingness that was the 50th Anniversary {I laughed, I cried, I was in total awe of how amazing Stephan Moffat is...the special was perfection!} I had to head home and prepare for another fun event that night in Downtown San Diego...MONA!!

I had been a fan of MONA since The Music Maven wrote about them in her top albums of 2012.  I was hooked upon first listen! I wasn't sure I was going to be able to make it with the DW 50th, but when our party changed times, my mind was set. I ended up going alone, but I didn't mind.  I was front row and rocked my heart out!  I even made some new friends while we waited for the band to start.  I always wish my favorite bands can play longer, but I was pleasantly surprised when they played two of my favorite songs, "Pavement"and "Teenager" off their first album.  If you haven't listened to them, you defiantly should!

Another long wait ended this weekend, the release of the sequel to The Hunger Games, Catching Fire.  It took me till Sunday to see it and I had to finish re-reading the book in line, but it was completely worth the wait.  I enjoyed the first movie, but the second one blew the first out of the water.  I was on the verge of tears all the way until Katniss was back in the arena.  This movie was completely heart retching and satisfying as a beloved book adaptation!

As a bonus to an already amazing weekend I was able to see the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary special in the theater on the BIG screen, Monday night!  It was even more amazing the second time around!  Though I really wish that 10's hair was back to it's fluffy self. That would have to be my only complaint!

A Nerdtastic Weekend #2

HAPPY OCTOBER!  We are only a few days in and already it has been an amazing month.  It is always one of my favorites to begin with.  The weather cooling, pumpkin everything & cozy clothes!  My adventures this first weekend of the month have been great!  Here is a peak!

With Friday off, I headed down to my favorite mall, Fashion Valley.  I shopped till I dropped and had a bite to eat before heading to see Gravity.

The Hunny did not want to see it.  He thought it would be two hours of just floating in space.  So I went alone and really enjoyed it.  The movie was just beautiful to watch.  A LOT of suspense and a few laughs.  I could see an Oscar nomination in its future.

While waiting for the movie to begin, I saw that Psych star Dule Hill RTed my Psych article!  I was alone in the movie at the time, so I freaked out inside my head!

My shopping spree was at Bloomingdale's my FAVORITE store!  I had seen online that they a ton of UK stuff, but the website said it was not in the store.  I decided to check out the store anyways and lo and behold I was able to spend some money!  I HAD to get one of the make up cases for The Music Maven!  I knew she would appreciate it as much as I did!  I can't wait to wear the tee to the A Silent Film concert coming up next month!

Saturday morning I got to drink out of my brand new Tangled mug!  I saw it at the Disney store and HAD to get one.  I love mugs and coffee and Tangled!  

After my morning coffee myself and the family headed to Julian for their apple festival.  It is about a forty-five minute drive out from San Diego.  Usually it is super hot out there, but this year surprised us with a blustery day!  Our first stop had to be for a slice of pumpkin apple pie!

This pie alone would be worth the trip out there!  It sounds weird, but it is amazing!  Everyone loved it!

Julian has so many cute stores, with so many awesome things to buy!  My favorite has to be their used bookstore and they even had a book entitled Megan!  I had to take a picture of it!  I could have stayed in there ALL day, but The Hunny was getting a bit antsy!

Next door to the actual Apple Festival was an apple orchard where you could pick your own apples.  I had never gotten to do this before and it was great fun!  We easily filled our bags and stomachs with apples!

On our way out of town we had to stop at the famous Mom's for one more slice of apple pie.  Regular this time and their Cherry Cider.  This stuff is amazing!  We got a gallon to take home!  MMMM.

I am finishing the entire thing off with my pie and some Breaking Bad.  I am currently on Season 4!  I am hooked and loving it...what should I watch after?!  Decisions!!

The Perks of Being a Wallflower

The Perks of Being a Wallflower - {it will change your life!}

I've seen some good movies this year and some great movies, but this was one that changed me and will stay with me forever.  It had emotion, great music and such an amazing cast.  This movie grabbed at my heart, held it and moved it.  

Charlie is a high school freshman dealing with the loss of a friend to suicide and his own mental illness {yes sounds like a downer stay with me!}.  He is a loner, until he is befriended by two high school seniors Patrick and Sam {step-siblings}.  Through their friendship he is finally welcomed into a community and accepted for who he is.  This is a story of growth, friendship, loss, betrayal and love.  Everything you remember about being sixteen and somethings you would like to forget.  But they made  you who you are.

I have not read the book but it is now on the top of my to do list.  I cannot wait to get back to the feelings I had for this movie.  The picture above is from the movie.  Sam and her brother Peter are at a school dance and a "cool" song comes on.  They then hit the dance floor with a routine they have done many times at home.  The freedom that they show while dancing to a song they love is something I can truly relate to.  Music/movies/etc. anything really can grab at my heart and make suck me in.  This movie did exactly that.  All this with only seeing one trailer, that I barely remember, but thought it would be a good movie to see, maybe see it on DVD sometime in the future.  So glad that didn't happen.

WHO are these actors?!  Emma Watson of course I knew from Harry Potter fame {ps. did not ONE time think Hermione in this film.  Totally forgot she even has a natural British accent!}.  Logan Lerman carries this movie so well.  He had such great emotion and I felt everything he was going through.  Ezra Miller was also amazing, funny and sincere.  I cannot wait to see what else they all accomplish.  Bravo!

This movie came out almost a month ago and the theater was still packed!  

Which means go see it!

Nerdy 4 Firefly

I first heard about Firefly at my very 1st  San Diego Comic Con in 2009 during my very 1st Chuck panel (before I knew about either of the shows).

As soon as SDCC was over, I headed over to Netflix to watch the entire season of Firefly and re-watch it again!  I was a Browncoat by the end of the 1st episode!  I love how the show makes you care about the characters and I did not realize that it was going to be funny!  So many great one liners!   My favorite episode is "Out of Gas", where you get to see how all the crew found each other.  After I finished the season it was time for the movie Serenity!  I remember seeing the trailer for it in 2005 when I worked at a movie theater but never saw the movie until 2009.  The Hunny likes to brag about the fact that HE saw it on the BIG screen and I did not!  During Serenity I laughed, I cried...and then begin to share Firefly with anyone who would listen!

Halloween 2010 I dressed in TWO River costumes.  One from the show & one from the movie!  It was super fun & I LOVE dressing up.  My preschool parents thought I was dressed up like an 80s girl!

2010's SDCC was a HUGE highlight of my year, as it was my 1st year as a Browncoat.  I spent almost all my money at the CA Browncoats booth buying a magnet for my car, comics & a Jayne hat.  I even got a comic signed by Nathan Fillion (the happiest day of that con!).  He had tweeted that he was signing at the Browncoats booth and I RAN over, got in line with the rest of my group trailing behind.  The hunny got there in time to snap a picture!

Serenity: The Shepard's Tale graphic novel as Christmas present 2010.  I have all of the Serenity comics  and they are great!  It is fun to be able learn even more about the characters even though the show is gone.

Again Twitter saves the day!  I heard that there were tickets still available for this event about 30 minutes before it started.  I was in the area so ran right over and begin walking it RIGHT as it was beginning!  The panel was suppose to only be Nathan Fillion, but then we were surprised with Adam and Jewel showing up!  It was such and awesome fan experience because it was such a small venue (about 200 people).  At the end they stood and let everyone take about a million pictures, it was sweet!

The Hunny, The Gamer Geek and I woke up at 1am and head to the line by 2am (with MATCHING Captain Mal/Hammer Ts!).

At 3am The Hunny woke me up to say Joss Whedon was coming down the line, signing and taking pictures!  Joss is such a sweet, kind and thankful person.  He has the 3rd highest grossing movie of all time and he is walking a line of fans at 3am (with NO security!).  What an AWESOME person!

At noon that day we FINALLY get to see the cast!  

The group gathers for a long round of picture taking for all their loyal Browncoats.  There was lots of laugher and lots a tears throughout the panel.  This was the most moving moment I have witnessed in my 4 years at Comic Con.  Everyone on the panel was/is truly grateful to be there and have all the support from fans these last 10 years.  THAT is the reason I latch on to things, when the people and the emotions are real.  That really grabs at my heart and turns on my NERD switch!

The year we get to watch the movie Serenity on the field of Pet Co park WITH the stars Nathan and Alan!

We were ready to go Browncoat tees and hats ready! 

Nathan and Alan gave a nice little speech.  Which I filmed. 

After the speech they laid down and watched and gave commentary for the first bit of the movie!  What an amazing experience.  All the Browncoats in one big place, laughing and cheering together like the show never died!

2013 the year I FINALLY get a picture with Nathan and a surprise bonus Alan!  We were all surprised that it wasn't just Nathan in the photo booth.  Alan Tudyk was there too.  Nathan liked my Doctor cosplay and we shot the photo quickly.  When it was over I gave them both a big squeeze, BUT apparently it was a BIT TOO BIG for Nathan as he was "OUCH why'd you do that?!"  I then said sorry, sorry, sorry and ran away.  He was laughing of course, but I guess I don't know my own strength!

WHAT ARE YOU NERDY FOR?!
