Nerdy 4 Vampires

The year was 1992 & I was only 9 years old when my vampire obsession began!  Now that I look back, I can't believe I was so young, but it was all quite innocent.  The thing that started it all was a little show on Nickelodeon's late night program Snick, entitled Are You Afraid of the Dark.  The Episode was "The Tale of the Nightly Neighbors."  The story was pretty tame, good for a 9 year old. What got me was it the mystery? The charmingness of the neighbors? Whichever, I was hooked.

My next vampire memory is Interview With a Vampire {which is STILL my top favorite movie of all time to this day}.  This came out in 1994, so I am quite sure I did not see it at that time.  I do not remember my first time seeing it.  All the time they were able to live, all the things they got to see and do.  That is my biggest allure.  I tried reading the book, but after seeing the movie soooo many times, going to the book was so different.  I could not get through it, all I could imagine was the movie.  Another draw was the fashion! Is it weird that I wanted/want all of Claudia's cute lil dresses, especially {spoiler alert?!} the one she dies in, its to die for {literally!}.

I love beautiful book covers.

Then Twilight came along.  I was living in VA and a friend of mine told me about this series she was reading.  She even gave me the 1st one as a birthday present.  I distinctly remember reading the first one so quickly that I still had birthday money left over {which is surprising as I spend as soon as I receive}  and was able to go to Borders and buy the second and third books right away.  I was even able to purchase Eclipse with Stephanie Meyer's signature in it.  I am such a hopeless romantic that I was pulled right in.

Then came True Blood.  I cannot remember if I began watching the show as it aired or bought season one when it was over.  But regardless in June of 2009 I began reading the books.  I bought one through seven and was ready for the SDCC panel in July of that same year.  I have finished up to book ten as of now {two more have come out since} and Sookie STILL hasn't wanted to turn.  That is so hard for me to get over as, if I was her, I would want to turn.  So many things you would get to see and do!  Also look young forever..sign me up :)

Next was The Vampire Diaries.  I had read the books {another friend recommendation} and was super excited for the show.  I did drop off a bit in the middle, but just finished a full marathon this summer to be ready for the SDCC panel in 2012 and the season four premiere that just aired.

My love for vampires peaked in 2010 when we were on vacation in NYC for Christmas.  On one of our many subway trips I saw a poster for a show about three roommates:  a vampire, ghost and werewolf.  My group was walking fast ahead of me and I remember pointing it out to them and saying I wanted to watch this.  I highly anticipated the premiere of the show Being Human on the SyFy network.  I even persuaded The Hunny into watching it and it is now our FAVORITE show on TV.  In 2011 we had the chance to see their SDCC panel AND get to meet them!  That was the highlight of our con!  We CANNOT wait for the return in Monday January 14th, 2013.  It will make getting through Monday a bit easier!

Just recently I began reading comics and one of my obsessions since I LOVE the movie is 30 Days of Night.  The reboot of the original comic series, is such a great way to continue on with such a great story.  It has such strong and interesting characters. They are re-releasing the original series of graphic novels just in time for Christmas {added to wish list!}.  I love the movie, it is extremely dark and scary.  I'm not usually a huge horror fan {I like the nice vamps {contradiction?!}} but the story/cinematography was so amazing that I just watch it with the lights on.  I love the RED blood against the WHITE snow {so graphic}.

Since my love of vampires began I haven enjoyed many vampire movies/TV shows and books:
*Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter {book and movie}
and
*Dracula {movie and book {book is FREE for the Kindle} and NOW TV show!}

What vampire pop culture awesomeness am I missing out on?!  Help me out!

WHAT ARE YOU NERDY FOR?!

San Diego Comic Con 2009

I don't remember when I first wanted tickets to SDCC.  The hunny is in the industry so we get them for free.  He might have mentioned it to me or I him, since we had just moved to SD.  Along with our two tickets we were able to get two under 18 tickets for my brothers.  They were just along for the ride.  We didn't have any EARLY wake up calls and my parents dropped us off every day.  We were total NOOBs!
day one of our VERY 1st SDCC!!!
our first line for our first panel Twilight :)  Back then we got in line at 8am and still got in the room.
my very first BIG celebrity sighting...had a HUGE fangirl moment when Johnny Depp surprised the crowed at the Alice in Wonderland panel.
I was sooo excited for Twilight
day 2
day 3
so happy to see Bender in person!
soooo happy to get my very 1st SDCC exclusive and it was Futurama

Use to see Spock, now only see William Bell :)
Alexander Skarsgard from True Blood
We were such NOOBs that we ended up not even going on Sunday or venturing downtown.  Both Sunday and going downtown have become some of my most favorite things about SDCC.  I have learned so much about the con every year.  I really think my most favorite thing is being able to share it with my family.  It is a LOT of bonding time.  And as the hunny has pointed out I get into a SDCC zone, where I only think about me, but I have learned to slow down and take it all in and just enjoy it.  I am so blessed that every year we can have this fun time to spend all together!

San Diego Comic Con 2012: Day 3

The day started out GREAT because we got to sleep in till 7am and ended up getting to the Ballroom 20 line around 8:30am...which was VERY VERY long and I was worried we might not get it, but I over heard someone behind me say the day before's line was WAY longer and they ended up getting in.  This gave me some hope!  Once the line began to move around 9:30am, we didn't stopped until we got into the ballroom.  I was THE LAST person to get into the 1st panel of the day.  {they actually stopped me and let my bro and hunny go, but I was like I'm with them!!  and they let me through!}

After we got our seats it was almost 10:30am and I rushed down to the Fringe signing at the WB booth!  Was DYING to see Joshua Jackson {loved him since The Mighty Ducks movies!}  I was as able to get a few pictures till I had to RUN back to the ballroom before my pass expired.  While waiting for the panels we wanted to see, the hunny goes and gets us better and better seats.  I was saving one for him and "they" made me give it up, so I did.  But then @The_Gamer_Geek had to go use the bathroom and they wanted me to give up HIS seat!  I was like he went to the restroom!  They said he had been gone a long time, just at that moment he walked by and I said he's right there!  Seriously people give us a break!  Those restroom lines {especially for us girls} are a nightmare!

The Futurama panel was the first one we were excited to see and the smile did not come of my face the ENTIRE panel!  We got to see 8 mins of one up coming episode where Bender might or might not have ground Fry into sausages for Oktoberfest.  Then the voice actor of Fry {Billy West} did some of the now popular Fry Memes.

Then Matt Groening and one of the other Futurama artists had a drawing contest, Matt drew about 5 in the time limit, while the other drew a nice portrait of Leela sloooooowly and at the end Matt turned to his last page and had a detailed drawing...the crowd voted and crowned the winner too NOT Matt!

Then Matt was presented with the Comic Con 2012 Icon Award!  That is always one of my most favorite panels.  It is my favorite show of all time and it is so awesome to see the cast do the voices LIVE!

The Family Guy panel the BEST part was when the entire cast started making the ASL interpreter do dirty words... brought the house down!

I was excited to see ALL my panels this year, but especially The Vampire Diaries since I just did a long marathon of watching all the seasons to catch up and then seeing this years season 3 finale {which was one of THE BEST finales I've seen} and have never being to one before.  They DID NOT disappoint!  I have had a realization this year at the con that the reason I love TV more than movies is that the TV casts are sooooo sweet and appreciative of their fans!  During the fan Q&A Ian Somerhalder really stuck up for the fans when the Ballroom peeps cut the mike on one of the questioners.  He put the smack down on the mic worker by saying the fans can say what they want, ask what they want, how they want!  They were such a sweet and loving cast!

The last panel of the day, after sitting in the ballroom ALL day, was True Blood!  They showed a teaser trailer of what is up for the rest of the season {it looked awesome!}  They are also a sweet and loving cast...Ryan Kwanten even did a walking handstand for the fans!  In the end there was a standing ovation for Alan Ball who directs his last episode this season.  They even stood for the above group picture for quite a while and stayed after to sign take pictures for fans {which they did at the SDCC in 2009 too}.

Another AMAZING day!!!!  So sad tomorrow is the last day.  There is a Fringe panel, so I would love to get a picture WITH Joshua Jackson...we shall see {won't hold my breath :)}

ONE LAST DAY tomorrow LET'S MAKE IT COUNT!!!

San Diego Comic Con 2012: Swag

Now that Comic Con has come and gone, I am now back in the real world {working, doing laundry and cooking dinner..booo!}.  I finally had time to gather/admire my favorite swag of the season!

1st my two autographs that were BOTH by accident!  Joss Whedon on EARLY Saturday morning and Felicia Day on the last day of the con!

My always favorite BAGS!  I have a problem in real life with hoarding bags and comic con just contributes to that obsession!  The Wilfred bag is THE biggest bag I have ever seen and I could probably fit comfortably inside it!  I got that one in the Gaslamp.  The Breaking Dawn bags went SUPER fast, but I was able to get mine on preview night.  I HAD to trade my Hobbit {GASP} WB big bag for The Vampire Diaries {Swoon!} :)  I totally stalked the Showtime booth for the Dexter bag and was able to close out my collection of Dexter bags {last season and last con :( }.  Lastly my bro answered TWO Walking Dead trivia questions in the last hours of the con on Sunday to get us both The Walking Dead bags...they were being VERY discreet about those ones!

Defiance was EVERYWHERE this con {good for the hunny} but not much swag...soooo, took two cards, a pen and napkins from the cafe, for our scrapbook.  At the Defiance panel, I saw that someone had taken a menu and was getting it signed...WHY didn't i think of that?  OH I DID, but didn't want to steal it :(

Lastly I acquired enough buttons to finally finish my button collage that I saw on Pintrest!  I have a 12x12 inch canvas that I am going to glue them on in a shape of a heart :)  So I can look at it on the wall and it can remind me of the happiest time of the year!  Not that I need any reminding...because my pic with Zachary Levi is on my phone's lock screen so anytime I need to get on my phone {which is quite a lot...OBSESSED with Instagram!} I get to see his smiling face and can't help but smile myself!

BEST COMIC CON EVER!!!!
367 days till next year!!!!
