San Diego Comic Fest 2013

This weekend I was lucky enough to get a press pass {my very first!} to San Diego Comic Fest.  Both The Hunny and I attend last year.  This year I went alone and had a great time, checking out the floor, fun cafe and an awesome panel.
This is a very small convention, but has a lot of heart.  The people there are all super friendly and helpful.  There are tons of comics and collectibles to choose from.  I was happy to see Little Vampires creator Rebecca Hicks there.  My very first SDCC I got one of her adorable vampire pins and have been hooked ever since.  Last year's Comic Fest I got a print for my desk and this year I finally got her coffee mug and a stuffed little vampire.  We even had a fun conversation about Sherlock!
I also was happy to see con regular James Morris.  He was there promoting his new book Water Tower {review and giveaway to come!}.
My favorite area of the con had to be Draco Tavern.  It is based off of Larry Niven's novels.  I love space and coffee so this was such a fun place to hang out.  They decorated it where you were immersed in the world of the novels, which I know have to check out!
Alien inside Draco Tavern.
The Town and Country Hotel, where San Diego Comic Fest is held is amazing.  It is such a gorgeous place to walk around and every where you look is beautiful!
I couldn't believe how detailed they decorated the space!
Space and coffee?  Sign me up!
My Little Vampire purchase from Rebecca Hicks.  I love him!  Couldn't resist a shot of him looking all regal!
My final stop of the day was a panel hosted by James Morris featuring Clayton Moore, Delores Fisher and Stephen Potts entitled It's the End of the World As We Know It.  This was my favorite part of the day.  The hour long panel talked about literature and films depicting the end of life as we know it on Earth.  I came out of it with lots of new things to read and watch.  It is panels like this that make me MISS being in school.  I loved taking notes and listening to their thoughts on a subject I love!  If I could attend more of these types of talks I would.

Next stop Stan Lee's Comikaze!  Will I see any of you there?!

I was at the San Diego Comic Fest too on Saturday. I was kind of disappointed that they had so few monthly comic book writers and artists this year. No offense to the up and coming writers and artists, but the already established creators are the heart and soul (or meat and potatoes) of the industry. If you want to go to a more local con than Comikaze, you can go to the Oceanside SoCal Comic Con at the Qln Center on Sunday, October 20. No panels or celebrities but plenty of artists, toys, comics, and collectibles. Go to socalcomiccon.com for more info.

Loved Comic Fest. It is a true gem. I was most happy by the panels and meeting living Legends from Disney, Hana-Barbera, UPA and Warner Bros. These men are rare and hidden gems. Loved to hear them discuss their years in the business and that they still have a love of the medium. Truly blessed to receive their own hand drawn art "Lady" from Lady & the Tramp, Fairy "Meriweather" from Sleeping Beauty and "Donald Duck". Loved hearing their stories and still seeing a twinkle in their eyes. People need to find and appreciate these men, before they are gone. Big shout out for Disney Legend Floyd Norman and fellow animator Willie Ito. I will love my art forever and think about these 2 men every time I look at these pieces. Comikaze is next, I have been fortunate enough to meet and listen to Mr. Stan Lee several times over the years at Comic-Con International and look forward to his and Elivira's take on conventions. We need to make sure there is still hand drawn animation and published comics. :)

The End of the World panel sounds like it would have been awesome! The apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic subgenre is my FAVE! Can you let us know what were some of the book suggestions?
