Three years ago I bought my first house. If you have been here for some time, you know where I've come from and how I could never believe this to be true! Let's start from the beginning.
11 years ago I was living in San Diego, I was married and I had a part time job. No savings, no retirement fund. But I was happy, or so I thought.
Today, I am living in Denver, with my new husband and a full time career path with a promotion in my sights. Savings, retirement fund and best buddy Simon (my cat) and husband's dog Roxy.
A far journey from wanting to be a stay at home mom. But I could not be any happier where I am at and the accomplishments I've done on my own for myself.
I cannot believe that in July of 2022 I was able to buy a house on my own. When I was married before, we never talked of BUYING a house and when I left, I certainly didn't think it was something I could do on my own. It was a very emotional process and I had a little help from my parents but now 3 years in, I've paid them back after the first year and I own my very own home.
I cannot wait to give you a tour!
The house was built in the 1970s. Everything had been freshly painted and carpeted. The bathrooms I knew would need updating but I had to save up for each renovation. The downstairs bathroom was the first project. I picked this because I had my office in the downstairs bedroom and guests would be using this as well. I did a new light fixture, mirror, toilet and vanity. I updated the door hardware and got this cute washable rug. BIG improvement. When I first moved in, I was living alone with my cat Simon, so the downstairs bedroom was my office. I also had my Tread in there. Once my husband moved in I transformed the room into his space. It took a while to get here like all projects do, but one weekend when he was out of town, I decided to give it a make over and give it a more put together and homey feel. He loves having his own space and I am so glad that we the extra room since we both work from home. It has been perfect.
My living room has gone through the most change. When I moved in it was carpeted, with cream walls and a huge dark stone fireplace. From day one I didn't like the paint color. Flash forward 2 1/2 years later and I was able to get both the floors updated as well as the paint. I had the downstairs bedroom, front door landing and living room's floors done. And the entire house (minus the already painted bathrooms) done. It made a world of difference. I cannot believe what different house it seems like. I love how bright both improvements made the house. It made me love the house even more and so happy and excited to be living in it.Moving to the upstairs, or as I like to call it Simon's domain! Upstairs is a loft style so it is open to the living room area. I have our primary bedroom, my work from home office and a bathroom in the space. It has a lot of uses! The two updates I've done here are to take out a closet for my work from home nook and to update the primary bathroom. Once those two things were done, the house finally felt in a great spot! Would I like to do more? Sure but now I feel like this is a house that I created and love so much!
Here is a peak into my work from home space. It is the perfect lil nook! I have a spot for Simon to come it next to me if he wants, the drawers were a great addition, I'm always finding ways to incorporate more storage and organization and then my Keurig! I love having this in the bedroom since my husband and I have different coffee styles. I can grab my cup straight away each morning.
