Denver Hot Chocolate 5K 2019

I am so excited to announce that at the Denver Hot Chocolate 5K....my Personal Record was broken!

I have been running for four years now. I never thought that I'd get to a 30 minute 5K. Back then, I never thought I'd run a 5K. You can read all about my running journey on my 4 Year anniversary post. It has been amazing and I wouldn't have changed anything!
This year, my third year running the Hot Chocolate, I put the goal of 30 minutes in my head. I didn't train too hard, but when I went to Seattle to visit my bestie Steph, something clicked. Was it the sea level, the abundance of air or the fact that I always try to keep up with her? Whatever it was, I became faster that day.
I came home with two months left. I ran outside more, I worked on my core and I pushed myself with speed trails. One day on the treadmill, I broke the 9 minute mile. I've always consistently been around 10 or 10:30 minute miles. I was hooked and knew I could say out loud my goal!
Come the day of the race, I was nervous! It is an early race, starting right at dawn on October 6th. I had Steph by my side and we took off! She is such a good pacer, I stayed at her side the first mile (9 minutes), second mile 9 (minutes) it was at that time that I said out loud we were going to do it!
I felt great, I couldn't believe it. With the last mile ahead of us, I began to slow down. Steph told me to hurry up! So I did. That last mile was tough to keep the same speed, but she literally pushed me ahead! I saw the finish line in site. My Nike app said 28:07! But the course wasn't finished. I had two minutes. I ran with all my speed...probably a bit too soon, but the time kept inching closer.
I crossed the finish line with 30:22 on the clock! I'll take it! I'm so proud of how far I've come. This 5K, my two 1/2 marathons. From being a run hater...to a run lover I'm amazed at what you can do when you put your mind to something. This is really the first thing I've done just for me. I'm happy and I cannot wait to do even better and MORE in the future! xx Meg

Way to go! That is so awesome! I have begun running with a little more vigor lately and I love when I can beat an old time. It is such a great feeling! I was never a runner, in fact I grew up hating running. Now I love it and cannot wait to get better ♥
