Geek Girls Gab with Amy Geek

I'm a blogger and geek who likes to write about everything from crafts to cosplay to Star Wars. I like when people are passionate about things.
The Nerdy Girlie:  What is your 1st nerd memory?
Amy:  I think my geek tendencies started around 10 when I read A Wrinkle in Time, but I don't remember it clearly so I tend to jump forward. I distinctly recall tuning into Star Trek: The Next Generation one night because I knew my dad liked it, and it was a Wesley Crusher-centric episode called The Game. I was hooked. I was in junior high and it wasn't too long before the series wrapped up because I remember watching best episode marathons.

TNG:  How and why did you start blogging?
Amy:  I've always enjoyed writing but for many years I just thought the only kind of writing I should do was fiction. I don't know why. And I wasn't so great at it. When I realized I could connect with others about everyday, real life stories I was sold. I started blogs about food and travel before I hit on Geek with Curves and realized I loved the heck out of blogging about my nerd passions.

TNG:  YOUR favorite blog read?
Amy:  I don't know if I can pick just one! I love to read Epbot for crafts and personal stories, I enjoy Just Jenn Recipes for all my baking needs, I adore Inn at the Crossroads for Game of Thrones/medieval style recipes, and I like reading Wil Wheaton's blog because I admire his writing style.

TNG:  What is your favorite thing/things to nerd out about?
Amy:  Oh, I'm way too enthusiastic for my own good. Star Wars is a given, especially The Clone Wars. I can talk anyone's ear off about that series endlessly. I also have a blast modifying recipes and making food from fiction and taking it to the level of crazy themed parties. It's not exactly nerdy, but I get crazy excited about Disneyland.

TNG:  Any tips for San Diego Comic Con?
Amy:  You know, I keep learning new things every year I attend. I'll go with the obvious but easy to forget: carry a bottle of water and carry snacks. Do it even if your shoulder is bruised and you can't bear the the thought of adding anything else to your bag. I can't tell you how many days I've ended up with a headache or worse after 8 hours at the convention center without eating or drinking much of substance.

TNG:  Girlie things you love?
Amy:  I have a weakness for nerd themed necklaces. I could probably wear a different one every day for a month. I have an addiction to Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab's perfume oils. Oh, and Disney Princesses. I've improved many a bad day by watching The Little Mermaid, Tangled, Brave, and Sleeping Beauty.

THANK YOU Amy for answering these questions.  LOVE your blog recommendations can't wait to dive more into those!  Sorry we missed each other at Wonder Con and hope we can find a time for a quick chat at SDCC!!  You can follow Amy on Twitter at: @Amy_Geek and her blog:  Geeks With Curves.
