Geek Girls Gab with Melissa Creates

I found Melissa on Instagram one evening while pursuing hashtags.  I quickly found out that she was a fan of "our band," A Silent Film!  BONUS she's a fangirl of Harry Potter, The Hunger Games and Star Wars!  Needless to say, we became INSTA-BFFs!  She has some amazing nerdy and girlie things in her Etsy shop, but her I'm Famous On My Blog line jumped out at me as truly original and fun!  Check out her shop and our interview below!

Melissa is the editor of MelissaCreates.com, a blog dedicated to living simply and entertaining stylish. On the blog you’ll find a variety of parties, recipes, DIY projects, geek chic inspired celebrations and more! Melissa currently resides in Orlando, Florida with her handsome husband and her yorkie, Dodger. When she isn't blogging she makes frequent visits to Harry Potter World, coffee shops and local concerts

The Nerdy Girlie:  What is your 1st nerdy memory?
Melissa:  I’ve always been passionate about music (hello, Romeo & Juliet soundtrack and young Leo) but as an adult I would have to say the Twilight Saga and Harry Potter totally kicked my nerdy-ness into high gear!  It wasn’t until I entered my 20s that I had the confidence to let my nerd side show. I did whatever others thought was “cool” and my interests were those of others.  I allowed people to mold me.  Now, I watch others of all ages not holding back when it comes to sharing their favorite things and it makes my heart so happy.  I’m more me than I’ve ever been and obnoxiously happy about it.
TNG:  How and why did you start being crafty?  Where do you find your inspiration?
Melissa:  I’ve always enjoyed crafts and as a kid got in trouble for getting glitter and glue stuck to the dining table.  I really enjoy making things that have my own spin on it.  I turn up the music and get crafty on the regular.
Most of my inspiration comes from music and movies.  I’ll notice an outfit in a movie and say oh I can totally make a headband like that or hear a song that inspires a canvas art DIY or an entire dinner party themed display.

TNG:  When and why did you decide to start your own Etsy shop?
Melissa:  I attended a conference for creative’s in January, Alt Summit.  Alt Summit totally gave me the push I needed to get the shop open after debating for months and months to do so.  I’m such a big fan of many books and series that I can’t contain my excitement, a shop that showed my fan love was totally needed. Wink.

TNG:  YOUR favorite Etsy shop?
TNG:  What is your favorite thing/things to nerd out about?
Melissa: Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Vampires, The Mortal Instruments, Star Wars, Lord of The Rings, Marvel, Sherlock, Doctor Who and Indie Music.

TNG:  Girlie things you love?
Melissa:  Tights. I could wear tights everyday for the rest of my life. I have a ridiculous amount and recently saw Christina Perri live and she had on black tights with stars on them...I must own them.  I also crush on maxi dresses and tank tops.  It’s not very girly but I always have my nails painted black.

Along with all the amazing stuff she does on her blog and in her Etsy shop, Melissa also is the founder of the Blog Fete Blogger Convention.  If you are in or around Orlando, Florida September 27th you need to check it out.  I have always wanted to attend a blogger convention and if I was on the East Coast I would be there in a second!  Take advantage for me!
