Geek Girls Gab with Geek And Prosper

I dislike these questions - how much do I say? :)  I grew up in Arizona, went to Iowa for college, and graduated with a degree in English Writing hoping to get a writing job after college. I had to settle for an English teacher position for three years. I quit last year to pursue freelance blogging and writing, which so far has been very difficult but more rewarding than three years of a "real" job. I've always been a geek through all of this, though, and it's honestly one of the things in my life that makes me feel like myself no matter the situation!
The Nerdy Girlie:  What is your 1st nerd memory?
Bree:  Playing Mario Kart on SNES at a friend's house in Washington. It was riveting. Now I feel empty if I can't touch a video game for a few days.

TNG:  How and why did you start blogging?
Bree:  I actually started blogging years ago when it was still considered a form of a personal online diary. That was with MySpace and then Blogger. I quit blogging during college for the most part, which was a stupid mistake. I picked blogging up again because I wanted to participate in the online geek world which I'd thus far been a distant observer of. I also wanted to show potential freelance blogging clients that I do indeed know how to blog and how to attract readers and comments. Growing community is vital in both businesses and geekdom, so my blog helps in both those areas!

TNG:  YOUR favorite blog read?
Bree:  As a new geek blogger, I looked up to Amy Ratcliffe's Geek With Curves, Jenna Busch's Girl Meets Lightsaber, and Katrina Hills' Action Flick Chick. I still love reading these women's thoughts! I am now following Leigh Alexander's Sexy Video Game Land because she knows more about the video game industry and culture than I could ever dare to dream of knowing. For practical geekery, I love Tara Theoharis' Geeky Hostess and Elizabeth Giorgi's Being Geek Chic. Finally, I tend to check in with the big-name blogs/sites every so often for news, like Nerdist, Nerd Approved, IGN, etc.
TNG:  What is your favorite thing/things to nerd out about?
Bree:  I of course am addicted to entertainment; anything science fiction, gaming, or fantasy related makes me giddy. That includes Star Wars, Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica, Red Vs. Blue, Halo, Fallout, Mario Kart, Hunger Games, Lord of the Rings, etc. Now that I've been to a few cons, my love of costuming has only deepened, and I really want to get into cosplay. I consider a deep passion for something to be "nerdy," so I'm also a nerd about England (100% Anglophile here), beer, history, philosophy, logic, religion, natural beauty, fashion, debt-free living, linguistics, self-improvement, small business, and more. I'd like to touch on ALL of these things in my blog at some point and tie them into the broader geek lifestyle in general.
So that's a lot of things to nerd out about. You asked for it.

TNG:  Any tips for San Diego Comic Con?
Bree:  Don't make it your first-ever convention. I still haven't been to SDCC, to be honest, but that's what many people told me because of how large and how much of a hassle it can be. So I started with a smaller local one, and my next stop is RTX 2013 in Austin, Texas, in July.

TNG:  Girlie things you love?
Bree:  I fawn over natural beauty products, as well as classy (Audrey Hepburn-style) and retro clothing and accessories. Also, I take a lot of baths (like, half our water bill is probably from my baths). I may be taking one as I write this. #dontjudgeme

*Thank you Bree for answering our questions!  It has been so fun getting to know you as a nerd girlfriend!!  Hope to see you at SDCC NEXT year!!!  Check out Bree's awesome blogging advice on Twitter @BreeBrower and her nerdtastic blog: Geek And Prosper!
