Diaries of a Ballet NOOB: Starting Pointe

Every year when I was a little girl my Nana would take me to see The Nutcracker.  There the ballet seed was planted.  When I saw Center Stage in 2000, my love for ballet grew even more.  By then I thought I was too old to ever do ballet but then a good friend came a long and drug me to her studio and told me NO I was not!  That is where my real ballet journey began on March 26, 2011.  Ballet is definitely harder than I thought it was going to be.  Those pretty ballerinas make it look too easy!  But with every class my knowledge and muscles grew.  As did my love for it.

Finally on January 27th, 2013 I bought my first pair of pointe shoes.  All those years and now I am accomplished something for myself, that I have aways wanted.  I was worried trying on the shoes.  I tried on a few and it was HURTING so bad.  I was about to give up then and there!  We went through about ten shoes before I found THE pair.  We had found the magical shoe, that fit perfectly and I was ready to commit to.

January 28th, 2013 for the first time I sewed something that mattered.  I have done a shirt once or twice. But never something that had to stay on a part of my body.

As you can see it is a bit rough and took a couple hours, but I did it and it made me love and appreciate my shoes even more.

January 30th, 2013 was my very first class en pointe.  The teacher told me I was able to work with them for fifteen minutes and that was the truth!  I think it might have been a bit shorter than that when I was really feeling it and had to switch back to my regular ballet slippers.  But that first time when she said to roll up onto pointe was magical.  I know it is going to be hard work, but I really feel like something is starting for me, maybe not even in ballet.  I just have a feeling that this is my year!
